This is a 1.0 wte (37.5 hours/ week), permanent role for a Clinical or Counselling Psychologist or a Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) Psychological Therapist to work in the IMPACTT DBT team.  

IMPACTT is a specialist therapy team working with personality disorders in Berkshire. This is an exciting opportunity for someone with a passion for working with people with a diagnosis of Emotionally Unstable Personality Disorder (EUPD) and delivering standard DBT. You will be joining an already established programme delivering DBT across Berkshire alongside specialist assessments and liaison with other key professionals.  

You will be joining a DBT team that trains and supports therapists to work in a way that is adherent to the DBT model so that our clients have the best opportunity to lead a fulfilling life.  Our Clinical Lead for DBT is an accredited DBT therapist and an accredited DBT supervisor, and over half the team are enrolled on the DBT Diploma.  Staff wellbeing is paramount and we deliver DBT on a foundation of compassion.  We are one of Berkshire Healthcare’s compassionate teams, having participated in compassionate team training.   

Your main base will be at Erlegh House, University of Reading.  As part of the role, you will also be expected to travel to other locations across the Trust, mainly in the East of Berkshire.  The role will be carried out face-to-face and remotely using Microsoft Teams.

  • You will be delivering all components of standard DBT; individual therapy, skills group, telephone coaching and attending weekly Consult. 
  • You will be facilitating specialist psychological assessments. 
  • You will be assessing and monitoring risk and acting to manage these in discussion/ collaboration with colleagues to ensure these are appropriately and safely managed.  
  • You will attend supervision. 
  • You will attend IMPACTT meetings. 
  • You will liaise with other key professionals.

Education/Qualifications/Training

  • Doctoral level training in clinical or counselling psychology or qualification as RMN, Dip SW, Dip OT or BSc OT with post qualification in psychological therapy equivalent to a diploma or Master’s level qualification or above.
  • Registered and accredited with Health Professional Council (HPC) or similar
  • Specialist experience and training in DBT
  • Eligible for graduate membership of BPS (British Psychology Society) and for Chartered Clinical Psychology status and membership of the Division of Clinical Psychology

  • Supervised practice in psychological therapies.
  • Pre-qualification training and qualifications in research methodology, staff training and/or other fields of applied psychology

Previous Experience

  • Demonstrable experience of working in mental health services
  • Experience of working with service users with personality disorders.
  • Experience of delivering standard DBT.
  • Experience of presenting problems throughout whole life course that reflect the full range of clinical severity
  • Experience of services (and working as part of multi-disciplinary teams internal and external to the organisation) across a wide variety of patient groups, throughout the whole life course and with service users with cases of a high degree of complexity
  • Experience of managing highly complex situations concerning safeguarding and risk management.
  • Experience of delivering agreed/specified service targets and effective time management in a busy and demanding environment

  • Experience of the application of clinical psychology in different cultural contexts.
  • Experience of assessing Personality disorders
  • Experience with routine outcome monitoring, audit and clinically related research
  • Experience of teaching as well as experience of developing training programmes and supervision of junior staff

  • Well-developed skills in the ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, complex, highly technical and/or clinically sensitive information to clients, their families, carers and other professional colleagues both within and outside the NHS.
  • Ability to manage own caseload and time and to work flexibly across teams and sites in response to service demands.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of mental health issues and presentations and knowledge of child protection/safeguarding issues and other relevant legislation
  • Computer literate

  • Doctoral level knowledge of research methodology, research design and complex, multivariate data analysis as practiced within the clinical fields of psychology.
  • High level knowledge of the theory and practice of at least two specialised psychological therapies.
  • Knowledge of legislation in relation to the client group and mental health.
