Job overview

This is an opportunity to work within a fantastic multidisciplinary team covering the areas of West Northumberland.

This is a permanent post where you will provide senior medical input into the West Northumberland Adult Community Treatment Team with the clinic at Fairnington Centre, Hexham General Hospital.

You will join a skilled and well-established adult community multi-disciplinary team which provides assessment and treatment for patients experiencing a wide range of mental health problems. The MDT workforce includes doctors, non-medical prescriber, specialist nurses, occupational therapists, support workers, psychologists and an IPS (Individual Placement Support) worker.

Main duties of the job

You will have  professional caseload of approximately 70-75 and a lead professional caseload of about 15 patients. There are approximately 8 new referrals to the service per week and you will have a one assessment per week. There are plans to decrease the number of lead professional cases with allocation of more complex patients for medical reviews.

You will be expected to have 3 clinics per week to provide evidence-based interventions for patients under your care. You will be expected to provide leadership, consultation, advice and guidance within the MDT and to work collaboratively with colleagues in other specialist mental health teams. You will take a lead role alongside other colleagues in service establishment, development, and innovation/ improvement, and will be expected to contribute to the ongoing training and development programme within the team.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
Desirable criteria
  • Qualification or higher degree in medical education, clinical research, or management
  • MRCPsych CCT in General Adult Psychiatry
  • Additional clinical qualifications

Eligibility

Essential criteria
  • Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at the time of appointment
  • Included on the GMC Specialist Register OR within six months
  • Approved clinician status OR able to achieve within 3 months of appointment
  • Approved under S12 OR able to achieve with 3 months of appointment
Desirable criteria
  • In good standing with GMC with respect to warning and conditions on practice

  • Excellent knowledge in specialty
  • Excellent clinical skills using bio-psycho-social perspective and wide medical knowledge
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English
  • Able to manage clinical complexity and uncertainty

  • Wide range of specialist and sub-specialist experience relevant to post within NHS or comparable service
