Look no further, we have an exciting opportunity for you to join our Intermediate Care Group within Birmingham Community Health Care NHS Foundation Trust, the largest community trust in the country. This is a newly created post and a fantastic opportunity for an Operations Manager who wants to be part of developing a new management team, focused on delivering safe, high-quality care in the community with the aim of supporting hospital avoidance.  The portfolio will include the Care Co-ordination Centre, Urgent Community Response and Virtual Wards, as well as being closely aligned with the Birmingham and Solihull Integrated Care System and West Midlands Ambulance Service.

The post-holder will be primarily responsible for operational management and service improvement of services working with the Service Manager to contribute to overall performance of the Group. 

Main duties of the job

  • Ensure an efficient and effective operational support service is provided across Intermediate Care Group which is responsive, innovative and delivered to a high standard.
  • Lead on specific projects, as directed by the Service Manager, thereby ensuring continual improvements in service delivery and patient experience.
  • To ensure all relevant performance and quality targets are met across lead services.
  • Be a key member of the Senior Management Team, taking full responsibility for actions and for keeping other team members fully informed at all times.
  • Deputise for the Service Manager and their portfolio on as delegated. This will include covering role of Service Manager in their absence.
  • Develop a Services Delivery Plan (in partnership and by agreement with the Intermediate Care Group Senior Management Team) to meet service needs and contribute to the annual planning process of the Trust in line with agreed corporate objectives and priorities.
  • Plan and manage the implementation of projects to improve service delivery and service performance against KPI’s thereby ensuring delivery of organisational and service plans.
  • Ensure strong financial service performance against plans through identification of problems at an early stage and the initiation of corrective action.
  • Ensure effective communication systems are in place throughout the service, and between other relevant services, where relationships are key to the delivery of safe and effective care to patients.

Qualifications / training

Essential criteria
  • Undergraduate Degree or equivalent
  • Evidence of leadership and management qualification or equivalent experience
  • Project Management experience in successfully managing and completing projects

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Extensive experience in managing complex projects including management of change
  • Extensive experience in managing competing deadlines, projects and work streams
  • Relevant experience in working with multiple IT systems in order to interrogate data / information and produce reports
Desirable criteria
  • Relevant experience in the production of business cases, business plans and board level papers
  • Budgetary and financial management

Skills / knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge of NHS and the financial economic environment
  • Key principles of project management
  • Understanding of NHS operational framework
  • Understanding of Community Healthcare, its structure, specialties and delivery
  • Competent user of Microsoft Office IT packages e.g. Word, Excel
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge and understanding of NHS waiting time targets, including management of PTL and 18 week waiting times
