Rapid Access Supervisor - Cancer Services

As a core member of the Cancer Multidisciplinary Team, the post holder will be required to engage with and work alongside healthcare professionals and administrative staff, working across the patient journey including primary and secondary care.

The role of the 2WW Supervisor is to manage and supervise the work of the 2ww team whilst working closely with the MDT Coordinators and Trackers to ensure that patient pathways are managed in a timely way. Also, that patients receive accurate and timely information about their appointments and are aware of what will happen next in their pathway.

  • To have a sound understanding of cancer waiting times targets, and to work proactively to ensure that all targets are met.
  • To be fully up to date with current guidance and direct the 2ww team as appropriate
  • To ensure that all 2ww staff have appropriate training and education to manage patient pathways
  • To maintain tracking systems to monitor patients and ensure safety netting processes are in place
  • Assist in for the management of the patient’s pathway, from first outpatient appointment, through diagnostics and treatment, highlighting any potential delays in the pathway and ensuring accurate data collection to support the process
  • To liaise with clinical and administrative staff regarding investigations, appointments, inpatient stays; ensuring that all requested investigations or appointments are booked as requested by medical staff and escalated accordingly.
  • Work closely with the MDT coordinators and the wider clinical team and use hospital information systems to record and review patient information for each cancer patient.
  • Ensure that the patient pathway is planned, documented and communicated to all parties involved in the care of the patient

Swydd ddisgrifiad a phrif gyfrifoldebau manwl

The post holder will be responsible for accurately collecting, inputting and monitoring of patients with cancer and suspicion of cancer, in line with the National cancer waiting times targets, local SOPs and processes. The post holder will be required to collect data from a variety of sources, within and external to the Trust.

The post holder will be managerially responsible for the 2ww Coordinators ensuring that there is overall supervision of the 2ww referral process.

The post holder will alert the MDT Co-ordinators, Cancer Managers or Operational Managers of potential breaches and capacity issues so that corrective action can be taken to avoid delays and breaches, in line with Trust Policy.

The post holder will be required to act as a flexible administrative resource actively supporting patient pathway improvement projects and working with the wider multi-disciplinary team, ensuring patient care is coordinated and delivered according to the cancer waiting time targets. They and will also be required to provide cover for other members of the Multidisciplinary Cancer Team during periods of absence where appropriate.

  • NVQ level 2 Business Administration or equivalent
  • GCSE level/grade 4 or above in Math’s and English
  • Experience of supervision of other staff and leading a team
  • Working knowledge of trust Patient Administration System
