Job overview

We are currently seeking enthusiastic & motivated registered nurse to join the District Nursing service as a Clinical Lead – Band 6. 

We have a number of posts available within our District Nursing Teams of which there are 7 across the area, including our Care Home Team. 

The District Nursing team is part of the Integrated Care Services (iCares) directorate within Sandwell & West Birmingham Hospitals NHS Trust.

The post is suitable for either an experienced Band 5 looking for progression or current Band 6 nurses looking develop further within an integrated community team.

The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting the District Nurse Team leader to manage the whole caseload as well as undertaking more complex case reviews.

As a Clinical Lead you will be expected to coordinate and oversee activities of the clinical team members to ensure compassionate, effective, and efficient delivery of high-quality clinical care for our patients.

We are looking for a candidate with leadership qualities who will excel at line manager responsibilities, including Sickness review meetings, keeping Allocate up to date, work allocation, audits, processing clinical incidents and clinical supervision of the junior staff.

It is an exciting time to be working in District Nursing  and we are looking for someone to complement our integrated approach and willing to develop working relationships with both care homes and wider team colleagues. 

Main duties of the job

To work as part of the district nursing team giving expert clinical advice and demonstrating leadership and specialist knowledge delivering nursing care.

To supervise and be a role model to staff working closely with the team leader

The job  holder will as part of their role be responsible for supervising a team of nurses helping them to learn and develop community nursing skills.

They will provide nursing care within a Community setting to people in residential homes across Sandwell & West Birmingham. 

A professional and approachable attention to work and staff is required.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of working in primary care and leading a community nursing team
  • Experience of direct supervision of qualified and unqualified staff.
  • Experience of identifying the development needs of others and giving effective feedback.
  • Experience of interagency and collaborative working.
  • Experience of teaching and assessing students
  • Experience of providing complex packages of care, which involve other agencies
  • Ability to manage staff, conflict and difficult situations and to challenge and support others appropriately and assertively
  • Experience of clinical audit, benchmarking and evaluation of services
  • Significant post registration experience

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered General / Adult Nurse.(Level 1)
  • Evidence of continued professional development
  • Good standard of general education
  • Must hold a Specialist Community Practitioner – District Nursing qualification and/or be registered as a V150/V300 nurse prescriber”.
Desirable criteria
  • Specialist Practitioner (district nursing)
