Job overview

The post holder is required to assist the Blood Transfusion Service Lead to monitor and comply with the Quality Management System (QMS) within BCPS Blood Transfusion (BT) to standards required for ISO 15189 accreditation, MHRA, and other regulations/ standards.

Assist BCPS BT department to monitor achievement for directorate objectives, drivers, and targets by providing data to monitor overall project plans.

Assist and support members of the BCPS BT to provide a seamless quality of service.

Undertake quality assurance audits as required across the BCPS network, covering services at The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust, The Dudley Group NHS Foundation Trust, Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust and Sandwell & West Birmingham Hospitals NHS Trust/ MMUH. 

Main duties of the job

Undertake internal audits including requirement to plan and organise workload and timescales. Provide basic support to BCPS staff undertaking internal audits.

To support review of controlled documents associated with the department.

Monitor document control within the QMS and maintain associated paper and electronic databases.Produce spreadsheets and maintain templates for use in audit, providing reports as required.

Input and assess data on various risk management software used by the BCPS Owner Trusts (e.g. Datix, Safeguard). This includes entries for the risk register, incidents and complaints. Alert managers to problems or issues.

Monitor documentation records within the QMS software system to ensure data for all aspects of the QMS is stored and maintained appropriately. The post holder may be required to revise and update QMS records.

Input and view audit data within the Laboratory Information System (LIMs).

Support BCPS BT with plan for closure of remedial, corrective, and preventative actions including root cause analysis.

Able to use judgement when identifying solutions to issues.

Support BCPS BT with the preparation of data collation for external visits i.e., UKAS, MHRA etc.

Support the BT Management team in the maintenance of all modules within the QMS software system, including extracting and attaching relevant data to support the system.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • GCSE or equivalent qualification in Maths grade C or above
  • GCSE or equivalent qualification in English grade C or above
  • A level / Vocational NVQ level 3 plus training, experience and knowledge to Diploma or equivalent experience
  • Computer skills/ Keyboard skills
Desirable criteria
  • GCSE or equivalent qualification grade A-C in 5 subjects
  • Knowledge of ISO15189, BSQR and/or quality management system.

Management

Essential criteria
  • Candidate should detail experience gained with supervising other staff
  • Candidates should demonstrate, giving appropriate examples, how they are able to prioritise and organise their work
  • Candidates should detail experienced gained with training other staff

Communication skills

Essential criteria
  • Candidates must demonstrate a good standard of written communication. Details must be presented in a logical chronological order with appropriate use of paragraphs, capital letters and punctuation.
Desirable criteria
  • Candidate should detail any experience with writing reports, standard operating procedures or similar.

Experience
