Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 3 Administrator to work with the Neuro-Oncology Clinical Nurse Specialist team in Bristol Haematology and Oncology Centre.

The successful candidate will have strong administration and organisational skills to be able to support and be an integral member of the team, ensuring the efficient running of the service, along with supporting patients undergoing treatment and follow-up for Neuro-oncology  Cancer ensuring that their appointments and queries are managed.

This role will involve communication with patients and carers, the wider Patient Services team (Treatment Schedulers, Outpatient Coordinators, Medical Secretaries and Clerical Officers), the wide MDT and other specialist services to allow the team to case manage and deliver a well coordinated pathway of care to those accessing the service.

Main duties of the job

  • First port of call for telephone queries for CNS team.
  • To liaise with and act as a point of contact for clinical and non-clinical staff via telephone and email
  • Typing of all CNS clinic and correspondence letters and filing
  • Assist with preparation of the Outpatient clinics, liaising with other Trusts/ departments, chasing results and reports in time for clinic appointments.
  • Liaising between trusts to chase scan appointments and to obtain test results in time for clinic appointments.
  • Data collecting and recording on local systems.

Knowledge and Experience

Essential criteria
  • NHS experience in administrative and clerical departments/ or similar secretarial/ administrative experience in a busy customer focussed department
  • Experience of dealing with the public both on the telephone and in public
  • Experience of working as part of a team and on own initiative
Desirable criteria
  • Comprehensive knowledge of medical record procedures and hospital information systems
  • Experience of the patient administration system (Medway)
  • Experience of working with the Somerset Cancer Register

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • 5 GCSEs level (or equivalent) in English Language and/ or Maths
  • IT skills or qualifications to ECDL/ RSA standard
  • Word processing RSA III or equivalent experience
