We have an exciting opportunity for a Band 3 Senior Assistant Technical Officer - Pharmacy Production Aseptic Services .

Full training will be given for the post.

All staff are supported to develop their potential through a structured personal development programme and to develop the required skills and knowledge

Apprenticeship in science manufacturing is available once established in post. 

In addition there are alternative development pathways to further your career in technical services.

Main duties of the job

Core duties:

  1. To assist with the smooth day to day running of the aseptic service.
  2. To support in training ATO’s and other staff in the aseptic unit.
  3. Preparation of injectable medicines using aseptic technique in pharmaceutical isolators and laminar flow cabinets, following validated methods and standard operating procedures.
  4. To assist with collating workload data, environmental monitoring data, entering the data into designated computer programs and generation of reports.
  5. To assist with audits to be conducted in improving the quality of the aseptic service and the facility.
  6. To generate aseptic worksheets and adult parenteral nutrition prescriptions using designated pharmacy computer systems.
  7. To label and dispense pre-filled/ outsourced ready to use items.
  8. Setting up trays with doses for individual patient’s according to standard operating procedure(s) for manufacturing
  9. Start and end of the day cleaning of unit and equipment.

Knowledge and Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of working to set procedures
  • Experience of working in a team
  • Experience of stock control and rotation
  • Basic IT experience
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of working in hospital pharmacy or similar environment
  • Good knowledge and understanding of Good Manufacturing Practice
  • Knowledge of Pharmacy computer systems
  • Knowledge of aseptic procedures and aseptic technique

Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to follow instructions and procedures methodically and accurately
  • Ability to be flexible and work to deadlines
  • Excellent attention to detail

  • To be able to manipulate fine tools and materials with physical accuracy and dexterity

  • Able to clean sterile cleanrooms as required
  • Basic Keyboard Skills

  • Ability to work in an aseptic cleanroom and with equipment

Qualifications and Training

Essential criteria
  • Maths and English at GSCE grade C or above
Desirable criteria
  • Previous training in the preparation of aseptic/sterile products
  • Awareness and understanding of Good Manufacturing Practice
  • Willing and able to work towards a pharmacy qualification
