A full time one year fixed term post or secondment to cover maternity leave, all MKUH roles will be considered for flexible working
We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic patient pathway co-ordinator to join the haematology administrative teams. This is a busy role and the successful applicant will be a team players with excellent organisational and communication skills.
You will need to be flexible and adaptable to deliver a range of administrative duties.

Main duties of the job
- To be the point of contact for all patients issues relating to their pathway of care, both for inpatients and outpatients.
- To work as part of a multidisciplinary team for the Cancer and Haematology (CSU), supporting the business and operational management of the CSU.
- To provide expertise in the proactive management of the patient pathway from referral to discharge, ensuring the entire pathway is managed smoothly.
- To ensure high levels of patient and clinician satisfaction by being an accessible, customer focussed and knowledgeable point of contact.
- To provide a consistent approach across the Trust, Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) will describe how the functions of this role will be carried out along with the timescales to which are to be adhered.
- Provide comprehensive secretarial/PA support to consultants and clinical teams within the CSU.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
- Use Trust IT systems and CSU databases to ensure relevant and appropriate patient information is entered and captured.
- Undertake general typing duties for clinic letters, specialist and/or confidential reports e.g. DVLA, Registration of blind patients, inquests, police reports.
- Ensure that referral management is dealt with in accordance with Patient Access Policy (PAP) and SOPs.
- Ensure that any diagnostics and investigations that are required as part of the patient pathway are requested according to SOP and that the results are available for consultations. This will include those that are carried out at other Trusts.
- Demonstrate high levels of customer care and be an ambassador for customer care within the trust.
- Act as the communication hub for the clinical team, other PPCs, primary care, patients and their relatives as well as internal and external organisations.
- Ensure that Trust agreed standard of service is delivered to patients requiring elective admission to the speciality.
- Ensure details of patients to be admitted are entered onto CRS.

Qualifications and knowledge
Essential criteria
- Good general education including English at GCSE (Grade C or above) or equivalent
- Good standard of spoken English
- Strong IT skills Word/Excel to NVQ level 3 or equivalent.
Desirable criteria
- Typing qualification or equivalent experience.
- ECDL qualification or equivalent.
- First line management qualification or relevant supervisory experience.
Experience
Essential criteria
- Relevant secretarial / administration experience working within a clinical environment.
- Experience of using IT / patient data systems.
- Ability to accurately input and retrieve information on a computerized system, whilst adhering to complex local and national policies and guidelines.
- Experience of handling inbound and outbound telephone calls of a potentially sensitive nature.
Desirable criteria
- Demonstrate the ability to delegate tasks and supervise outputs.
- Worked within a hospital environment.
