It is an exciting time to be joining MKUH Pharmacy. We have had significant investment over the last few years in a fully refurbished Pharmacy department plus a state-of-the-art Aseptic Unit based within our new Cancer Centre. Research & Development is a key priority for the organisation and the Pharmacy Department. We also have a New Outpatient Pharmacy.

As a result of significant investment into our clinical pharmacy team, we are looking for enthusiastic and highly motivated pharmacists to join our team and contribute to developing and delivering our services. This post would be ideal for a newly qualified pharmacist ideally with some experience of working in the hospital sector.

You will work closely with pharmacy colleagues and other healthcare staff to: 

  • provide clinical pharmacy services across a variety of specialities.
  • support safe prescribing and medicines optimisation.
  • support medicines safety and quality improvement
  • provide medicines related advice to colleagues and patients.
  • support the safe and timely discharge of patients.
  • support clinical screening and accuracy checking within the dispensary

In return, you will be supported by the Pharmacy Service to grow in your chosen profession. You will have the opportunity to develop your own skills and undertake your own professional development.

Main duties of the job

Your role would be to support the principal pharmacists and pharmacy colleagues in delivering a consistently high-quality clinical pharmacy service on the wards and in the department, including medicines reconciliation and prescription validation.

To facilitate and support the efficient and cost-effective use of medicines and to comply with pharmacy procedures, clinical governance, quality assurance and risk management.

The rotations covered in this role will include patient services, clinical services (covering acute and general medicine, general surgery, trauma & orthopaedics and paediatrics), technical services (covering cancer and aseptic services) and medicines advice & safety.

Qualifications and knowledge

Essential criteria
  • MPharm Degree (or equivalent)
  • Overseas Pharmacists’ Assessment Programme (OSPAP) Postgraduate Diploma (if required)
  • Registration with GPhC

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Work Experience in Pharmacy ideally including Hospital Pharmacy
  • Some knowledge of the structure and organisation of the NHS
  • Good clinical knowledge & ability to apply this to practice
Desirable criteria
  • Previously worked in Hospital Pharmacy
  • Able to describe the roles of hospital pharmacy staff
  • Able to discuss a current issue affecting hospital pharmacy
