An exciting opportunity for a highly skilled Orthodontic Technician to join the laboratory team for a fixed term period of 6 months.
Addenbrooke’s Hospital is one of the nine regional centres for the treatment of cleft patients and serves a wide population in the east of England.
This position demands continual high quality work in a busy and expanding department. Utilising traditional and digital skills, this gives you the perfect opportunity to help shape the quality and delivery of the technical orthodontic service.
Main duties of the job
The Maxillofacial and Orthodontic laboratory requires an individual who is highly skilled and experienced in Orthodontic Technology. Able to assess, manage and maximise their own complex workload, ensuring consistent and timely delivery of high-quality medical devices.
To co-ordinate and lead the timely, efficient, and cost-effective management of orthodontic technical services under the laboratory manager.
This post is a 6-month post to cover sickness.

Person specification
Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Fully qualified Dental Technician with BTEC Diploma/BSc or equivalent in Dental Technology.
- Registration with the GDC as a Dental Technician.
Desirable criteria
- Post graduate qualification in orthodontic technology to masters level or evidenced equivalent experience.
- Certificate in PAR Calibration.
Experience
Essential criteria
- Experienced in highly complex appliance design and manufacture.
- Experience at senior level
- Experience of Medical Device legislation, clinical governance, risk management and health and safety principles.
Desirable criteria
- Previous work experience within a hospital environment.
- Experience in teaching/instructing.
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Knowledge of 3Shape orthodontic software
- Knowledge of technical management of complex orthodontic and cleft patient cases.
Desirable criteria
- Membership of an appropriate professional body such as the OTA
Skills
Essential criteria
- Organisational skills – able to deliver objectives within an agreed timeframe within framework of a busy environment.
- Communication skills - developing professional relationship with clinicians/colleagues/management to deliver performance targets, service delivery and change programmes.
- Ability to effectively work independently and as a member of a team.
- Proven numeric and analytical skills.
- Proven ability in computer programme such as Microsoft word/excel.
Desirable criteria
- Able to collaborate constructively with colleagues and service users to foster and develop conditions, for successful partnership working and service development.
