North West Anglia Foundation Trust is offering an exciting opportunity for you, a motivated and inspirational midwife, to join our Maternity Team as a Band 5 Preceptorship Midwife , with plenty of opportunities to rotate in different departments, within the unit. Working in a hybrid model in the community and unit will allow you to maintain a high level of evidence based midwifery practice and to ensure you are proficient in all aspects of midwifery.
Main duties of the job
It is anticipated that the post holder will be competent in skills and management of antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal care and sufficient experience as would be necessary to underpin changing practice.
The post holder will be expected to work in both community and hospital settings, including a variety of shift patterns, to ensure competence in all areas of midwifery practice.
It is an exciting opportunity to utilise and develop your midwifery skills across low and high-risk settings, as well as gain relevant experience including an Obstetric led (but Midwifery influenced) Delivery Suite with the very popular Midwifery Led Birth Unit.
We also offer an extremely comprehensive preceptorship package with a dedicated team to support you and monthly protected time for teaching and reflection.

Education and Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Registered Midwife with the NMC
- Degree level qualification in Midwifery
- Examination of the Newborn qualification (NIPE)
- Awareness of professional responsibilities
- Ability to teach
Desirable criteria
- Masters qualification
- A willingness to continuously develop and progress
Experience
Essential criteria
- Newly qualified with a commitment to undertake and complete the full preceptorship programme
- Experience in all areas of maternity
- Computer literate
Desirable criteria
- Homebirth experience
- Experience of working in a midwifery lead unit
- Evidence of dealing with difficult situations
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Excellent communication skills
- Demonstrates knowledge of evidence-based practice
- Demonstrates an understanding of the assessment process for students and creating a positive learning environment
- Adaptable and responsive to changing needs and able use own initiative
- Has knowledge of the needs for safeguarding children and vulnerable adults
Desirable criteria
- Cannulation experience
- Suturing experience
- Attended PROMPT emergency skills training
- Understanding of clinical governance and risk assessment
Other
Essential criteria
- Valid driving licence and car owner
- Willing to work in the hybrid model of midwifery
- Advocacy skills
- Ability to partake in a regular on call rota
- Good health and character
