Job overview

An outstanding opportunity for a part time Medical Secretary within the specialty of General Surgery has arisen.

Would you like to take on a role that provides you with ownership of your workload? Would you like to be creative in your approach and be responsible for supporting to ensure our patients receive the best quality of care by using your skills, experience and our trust’s values and behaviours?

You will have medical typing qualifications and previous experience as a Medical Secretary. You will have excellent communication skills and be particularly caring and understanding. Experience in the use of Medisec, Winscribe Digital Dictation, PAS and e-Referral would be an advantage.

This post is Permanent

Hours per week: 22.5 hours a week to be worked on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday. 

Main duties of the job

To manage the office administration of the Consultant and designated medical staff, and provide an efficient and effective secretarial service. 

The post-holder acts as the first point of contact for all forms of communication for the Consultant and their team. 

The post requires excellent organisational skills, medical audio typing, and a sound knowledge of medical terminology

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • 5 GCSE’s or equivalent, grade C or above. Must include English.
  • Typing qualifications to RSAIII (Royal Society of Arts) standard.
  • Computer literate to ECDL (European Computer Driving Licence) standard or equivalent.
Desirable criteria
  • AMSPAR (The Association of Medical Secretaries, Practice Managers, Administrators and Receptionists) Diploma

Knowledge and Skills

Essential criteria
  • Medical terminology
  • Fast and accurate audio-typing
  • Good communicator – able to deal with people at all levels, including where there are barriers to understanding, using tact, diplomacy, and persuasion
  • Effective organisational skills
  • Ability to handle sensitive information without compromising confidentiality or trust.
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of Medisec
  • Experience with Patient Management System
  • Awareness of NHS policies

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Previous experience as a Medical secretary.
Desirable criteria
  • Hospital based experience
