Cornwall IT Services (CITS) manages the county wide IT technical infrastructure, data and voice services and device support on behalf of the countywide Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Healthcare community.

CITS are looking for an IT Customer Support Engineer to become a member of a friendly and committed Unified Comms Team.  The team provide day-to-day remote support of the communications infrastructure used by the Cornwall and Isles of Scilly NHS community. 

 

Main duties of the job

The Royal Cornwall Hospital Trust is currently involved in a major project to upgrade its network infrastructure. The work is being carried out by the Unified Communications (UC) team. To assist with this work a vacancy has arisen within the UC team, The work will involve:

Unboxing and configuration of new equipment.

Physical installation of new equipment including replacing old network access points (aps) that are installed across the Treliske campus (in corridors, offices and clinical areas) – N.B. The are in excess of 1,000 aps to install

Disposal of old equipment.

This work will be undertaken under the direction of other team members but there may be times the post holder may have to work without supervision.

The installation of wireless access points will involve the use of step ladders – for which appropriate training will be given.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The post holder will assist UC team leader and other UC engineers in the support of the Cornwall and Isles of Scilly NHS communities’ technical infrastructure. This will include configuring equipment under direction and installing wireless access points and other equipment around the Treliske campus.

The installation of wireless access points will involve the use of step ladders – for which appropriate training will be given.

Their responsibilities and duties will include working with and providing support to other engineers within the UC Team, but at times the post holder may have to work without supervision.

Essential criteria
  • IT qualification or equivalent experience.
Desirable criteria
  • ECDL qualification
  • ITIL qualification

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Basic knowledge of PC’s and mobile devices.
  • Basic knowledge of email and Office software.
  • Basic knowledge of software installation
  • Awareness of the Data protection act.
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of working within the NHS.

  • Good Communication & interpersonal skills.

Training

  • Evidence of continuing professional development;

  • Frequent requirement to lift and move moderately heavy equipment, with or without the use of mechanical aids in accordance with basic manual handling procedures.
  • Have the dexterity to fit and or update the internal components of IT related hardware with the use of relevant fine precession tools
