Band 4 Medical Secretary in Ophthalmology 37.5 hours per week.  This is a full time permanent post, however a job share would be considered.  

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Surgical administration team, the service aims to provide a high quality, locally delivered, patient focussed service.

This role will be crucial to the efficient day to day delivery of the service. 

We are looking for a competent and professional Medical Secretary to be based at the Cumberland Infirmary working in the Ophthalmology Department.  This is a permanent position working 37.5 hours per week , however a job share would be considered.

In this role you will often be the first point of contact for our patients therefore a professional, patient focused approach is key at all times. You will provide a high standard of administration support to the clinical team, liaising with other departments, patients, NHS Trusts and external agencies.

You should be educated to GCSE (minimum C Grade) standard, be trained to RSA level 3 standard and/or an NVQ level 3 in Administration and/or have the equivalent experience, preferably having a medical administration background.

We are looking for someone with a pleasant, adaptable disposition who can remain calm under pressure and deal with a busy workload efficiently and effectively

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are required as well as a positive approach to working in a team.

The Trust is committed to safeguarding adults and children therefore if the post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (ROA) 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (as amended) the successful candidate(s) will be subject to a criminal records check with the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS). The cost of the DBS must be met by the successful candidate(s) through salary deduction. DBS charges are as follows if applicable to the post:

Standard Check: £18 + Administration cost of £3.85 = £21.85. Deducted at £6.85 from 1st month salary and £5 deducted from salary over following 3 months.

Enhanced Check: £38 + administration cost of £3.90 = £41.90. Deducted at £11.90 from 1st month salary and £10 deducted from salary over following 3 months.
