Want to make a real difference and have a truly rewarding career?  Join 'Team Derbyshire Healthcare' and become part of a talented, compassionate and enthusiastic workforce committed to a vision of ‘making a positive difference in people's lives’.

We’ve been rated ‘good’ overall by the CQC, with some outstanding services.  The CQC commented at our most recent inspection on how our colleagues “treated patients with compassion and kindness” and “felt positive and proud about working for the trust.

We are passionate about making equality, diversity and inclusion part of our DNA. We take pride in our “People First Culture” which creates a workplace where everyone feels a genuine sense of belonging, difference is celebrated, and people are comfortable to bring their whole selves to work. Job overview

This is an exciting time to work for Derbyshire Healthcare. We are currently undertaking a programme to create purpose-built facilities to improve the safety, privacy and dignity for our adult acute mental health patients, by eradicating dormitory accommodation. As part of the programme, we are building a new state of the art Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) on our Kingsway Hospital, Derby site.

This will be a 14 bedded male PICU focused on therapeutic interventions and will deliver care to the national standard of PICU recommendations. The unit is due to open in approximately November 2024, therefore this will be a great opportunity for you to shape the service and build your own team.

You will work alongside an Area Service Manager to establish and develop this new service for Derbyshire and collaborate with an innovative and forward-thinking programme team and senior leaders to design the operational structure, staffing model and clinical pathways.

Main duties of the job

As Ward Manager you will be responsible for the day to day operational and clinical management of the male PICU unit. Working in accordance with our people first approach you will lead by example, acting as a role model to lead a multi-disciplinary team (MDT) to ensure the highest level of clinical standards. You will ensure the team provides safe, effective therapeutic care within a specialist newly purpose-built ward environment.

The unit will support patients with mental health conditions who need intensive treatment and support as an inpatient, provided within a safe and stable environment for their recovery. You will lead the team and support the wider MDT to create an environment where we are able to acknowledge our service users' cultures, life experiences, protected characteristics and their strengths to help promote their recovery.

The culture and ethos of approach within our PICU is aimed at ensuring that co-production of care with our service users is an essential and key part of their recovery journey. The MDT will involve both the service users, their carers, alongside clinicians and specialist practitioners as well as external agencies to ensure that individual recovery care plans are individual, co-produced, therapeutic and effective.
