Job overview

This is a great opportunity for a highly motivated and forward-thinking individual to join the Pharmacy Aseptics team at East Sussex Healthcare Trust.  Working alongside fellow Support Workers, Pharmacy Technicians and Pharmacists you will play an integral part in the supply of high-risk injectable medicines to the infusion suite and chemotherapy Day Units. 

You will have the opportunity to contribute to achieving our Team Vision, 'Providing Quality Aseptic Services to Ensure Safe and Effective Patient Care' and to do this you will need to be a good team player and have a real desire to improve patient experience.

An NVQ Level 3 in Pharmacy Services is essential as well as an accredited checking qualification.

We have a long-standing well-established team working within the pharmacy department, spread between the two main hospital sites.

We hold regular meetings to ensure all staff are up to date with any changes in practice and to establish the essential link between the two sites.

This is a part time position and there is some flexibility in the working hours which can be discussed.

 

 

Main duties of the job

To work as part of the Pharmacy Team in the provision of aseptic dispensing in the Pharmacy Technical Service Unit to:

  • Supervises other staff within the aseptic process
  • Manages the training and validation of staff
  • Releases high risk medications to point of administration
  • Liaise with other healthcare professionals.
  • Use of computer systems to supply and release high risk injectable medicines

To follow all Health and Safety standards in compliance with Trust policies and procedures. This includes:

  • Report all accidents, incidents and near misses.
  • Dealing with hazardous chemicals (including cytotoxic drugs) used in the department, following COSHH regulations.
  • Attendance of all mandatory training.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Qualified Pharmacy Technician BTEC or equivalent
  • ACPT accreditation or working towards
  • Accreditation (or working towards) Registered Pharmacy Technician
  • Evidence of continued professional develop to degree level or equivalent level of knowledge and experience
Desirable criteria
  • Risk assessment training
  • Practise supervisor training

Experience

Essential criteria
  • 2 years as a qualified technician or equivalent Aseptic experience
  • Experience of supervising colleagues
  • Knowledge of QC auditing Aseptics
  • Basic pharmaceutical knowledge and experience on actions and uses of medicines
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of chemotherapy/Aseptics
  • Experience of Electronic Prescribing systems
  • An interest in Oncology

Skills/knowledge/Abilities

Essential criteria
  • Good written and oral skills - good communicator
  • Demonstrates ability to work as a team
  • Demonstrates ability to work under own initiative
