Specialist Respiratory Practitioner

The Respiratory team  based at Wren House in Chelmsford are looking for a current  band 7 or current band 6  Nurse of Physiotherapist  who would like the opportunity to develop to a band 7. 

The post holder should have Respiratory experience ideally with Oxygen  and Pulmonary Rehabilitation  and be able to assist in managing the day to day running of the  wider respiratory team.  Deputising in absence of service manager. They will be expected to teach, train and  supervise staff . The post holder will be expected to assess and treat complex respiratory patients within the community in clinics and home visits and will be expected to complete ARTP portfolio and NMP within first 2 years of post. 

The Respiratory  team  includes Spirometry diagnostics service, Virtual Respiratory Ward , SOS  home visits, Respiratory clinics, Home oxygen service, Pulmonary rehabilitation and  consultant MDT meetings .  The post holder would be expected to work in clinics and visit complex patients in their homes .  Patients on the virtual ward will be contacted via video call and visited as needed as part of a 7 day service.  The service  will offer clinical supervision and teaching. The aim of the team is to provide comprehensive respiratory care to patients in a community setting with an emphasis on people at risk of admission to secondary care.

The post holder will be responsible for helping with the delivery and leading highly specialist clinical care to their own caseload and service within their specialty area for the COPD service. In doing so, they will assess, plan, deliver and evaluate patient centered programmes of care ensuring that they practice within their sphere of competence and knowledge. The post holder will work to professional and regulatory body codes, standards and guidance at all times ensuring that their practice is grounded in evidence based theoretical and practical knowledge. They will be responsible for developing new and innovative clinical practices responding to emerging knowledge and techniques and working with other services where appropriate to make improvements.

The post holder will help to develop breathlessness hubs and spirometry as well as assist with the line management of the COPD/Oxygen service and virtual respiratory ward. This post is within the established respiratory team in Mid Essex.

QUALIFICATIONS & EDUCATION

  • Diploma/degree in Physiotherapy, HPC registration and portfolio evidence of demonstrable postgraduate learning and experience equivalent to Masters level Or Registered Nurse on part 1 of the NMC and portfolio evidence of demonstrable postgraduate learning and experience equivalent to Masters level
  • Maintains a portfolio of CPD in line with regulatory body standards
  • Minimum 2 years band 6 experience

  • Management education development, including in supervision/ teaching/team management
  • MIPPS course
  • Independent/supplementary prescriber or willing to undertake whilst in post
  • Masters or equivalent experience
