EPUT is looking to appoint an enthusiastic and passionate Consultant Psychiatrist to join Community Mental Health services based at Grays Hall, Grays.  This post provides community services for patients referred to the secondary mental health services from GP surgeries within 2 PCN areas of Stanford-le-Hope & Corringham and Tilbury & Chadwell .  The Thurrock team has 2 consultants with the second consultant looking after patients from the remaining 2 PCN in the Thurrock area. There are additional consultant sessions into the PCN. The total population covered by the 4 PCNs is approximately 175000.

 

The post holder would be part of the senior management team of the team and be integral in developing and improving the service. The post holder will require to have AC status to be able to provide RC inputs into the cases who could be on CTO or are on MoJ orders.

As well as making a clinical difference, we believe that your development is key so you will be supported to enable you to pursue educational and research interests which go hand in hand to provide a high quality of care and safety to our patients. We have excellent links with the medical school at ARU and other educational establishments where we have shared appointments in teaching and research.

You must have full GMC registration and be on the Specialist Register, with an appropriate CCT or equivalent or be within six months of obtaining your CCT on the date of the AAC.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

·       Attend CMHT and PCN MDT meetings to discuss and support ongoing care of patients.

·       Provide regular clinics to review patients via CPA process.

·       Provide flexible emergency medical support for the teams patients.

·       Support patients under the MHA and the processes required under the MHA.

·       Support clinically and supervise your training doctor.

·       Work collaboratively with Primary Care.

·       Liaise with other services within the organization and outside of the organization to optimize the care of your patients.

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • MB BS or equivalent medical qualification
  • Registration with the General Medical Council and on the Specialist Register.
  • Meets Royal College of Psychiatrists criteria for appointment to the post of Consultant.
  • Section 12 Approval and Approved Clinician Status.
Desirable criteria
  • Qualification or higher degree in medical education, clinical research or management.
  • MRCPsych
  • On the Specialist Register with qualifications General Adult.
  • Postgraduate degree in psychiatry MRC Psych or equivalent.
  • Additional clinical qualifications.

Eligibility

Essential criteria
  • Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practice at the time of appointment.
  • Included on the GMC Specialist Register OR within six months.
  • Approved clinician status.
  • Approved under Section 12.
Desirable criteria
  • In good standing with GMC with respect to warning and conditions on practice.

Clinical skills, knowledge and experience

Essential criteria
  • Able to manage clinical complexity and uncertainty.
  • Makes decisions based on evidence and experience including the contribution of others
  • Able to meet duties under MHA and MCA.
Desirable criteria
  • Wide range of specialist and sub-specialist experience relevant to post within NHS or comparable service.
  • Utilises a quality improvement approach to think systemically about complex problems, develop potential change ideas and test these in practice using a systematic QI methodology.

Transport

Essential criteria
  • • Holds and will use valid UK driving licence OR provides evidence of proposed alternative.
