We have an excellent opportunity available for you, within the Obstetrics and Gynecology department at East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust. Our complete commitment to developing careers means we’re looking for proactive, motivated, forward thinking, and dynamic individuals to join our clinical team. This post is an important part of our ongoing development of Obstetric & Gynaecology services at East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust. This is a new substantive post.
This post is based at Lister Hospital in Stevenage and comprises 10 core programmed activities (PAs) including clinical sessions in both Obstetrics & Gynaecology and a non-resident on call commitment for both Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will join an established consultant team offering a
wide range of gynaecology and obstetrics specialist skills and experience, including specialist antenatal clinics for high-risk obstetrics, diabetes, fetal medicine, perinatal mental health, multiple pregnancy, haematological & cardiac conditions, maternal medicine & high BMI. Gynaecology services include benign gynaecology, gynae-oncology, colposcopy, fertility services, emergency gynaecology, early pregnancy clinics, recurrent miscarriage, endometriosis, hysteroscopy, robotic surgery and urogynaecology. The post holder will be supported in developing a special interest
that fits with the departmental needs.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
- Providing clinical leadership for high-risk pregnancies
- Providing clinical leadership and expertise in Obstetrics & Gynaecology supporting nursing and midwifery teams.
- An active role in the provision of teaching and training for
medical staff, nurses, midwives, and students. - Take part in the training of junior medical staff and medical students attached to the department
- Maintenance of high-quality patient centred care
- Shared responsibility for the day-to-day management of the service and participation in strategic planning
- Active involvement in multidisciplinary team meetings and directorate clinical governance activity
- Active participation in continuing medical education
Person specification
Qualifications / Training
Essential criteria
- Entry on GMC Specialist Register or, be within 6 months of receipt of Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) at time of interview or, provide GMC confirmed eligibility for entry on the Specialist Register
- MRCOG or appropriate specialist qualification
- Obstetric Emergency Training Certificate (e.g., MOET, PROMPT, ALSO)
Desirable criteria
- MD or Ph.D./ Postgraduate academic degree
Previous Experience
Essential criteria
- Broad range of experience in Obstetrics
- RCOG Advance Labor Ward Practice ATSM or equivalent experience
- Experience of supervising undergraduates, doctors in training and other colleagues
- RCOG Advanced antenatal practice ATSM or equivalent experience
- Ability to offer and be accountable for full and independent expert diagnostic opinion
- Can evidence leading on patient safety issues and achieving a change in practice
Desirable criteria
- Gynaecology RCOG ATSMs and a special interest that support the Dept needs
Skills
Essential criteria
- Able to evidence engagement with clinical governance and the identification of errors and the learning from errors.
- Evidence engagement with appraisal and revalidation
