Job overview

We are recruiting for a Reporting Sonographer who shares our vision to be trusted to provide consistently outstanding care and exemplary service to our patients.

Our multi-skilled sonographer team rotate across all three sites and provide a 7-day emergency service at the Lister, which is our acute site and is working towards 7 day working at the New QEII hospital to support the newly established Community Diagnostic Hub.

We support sonographer development and training, and our sonographers are valued members of multi-disciplinary teams across obstetrics, gynaecology, vascular, Musculo-skeletal and general medicine.

We support flexible working and have shifts working weekends and evenings.

Main duties of the job

You will have a flexible attitude to support the team and the service across our region upholding the highest standards of care and professionalism. 

We support ongoing professional development and encourage involvement with in-house training schemes to expand clinical experience.

There is also monthly in-house teaching and audit sessions where active participation is encouraged. Leadership is a shared function within our team, and we look to develop talent.

Qualifications/Training

Essential criteria
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent.
  • Hold postgraduate accredited qualification in medical ultrasound
  • Professional registration ( HPC or other)

Previous Experience

Essential criteria
  • Must have relevant skills/knowledge/experience in the range of ultrasound techniques required
  • 1 year/agreed competence post qualification

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Possess knowledge and understanding of audit and clinical governance processes
  • Must show evidence of and be prepared to continue with CPD to ensure a high standard of examinations and patient care
  • Be prepared to provide practical and theoretical training in medical ultrasound to specified staff and countersigning reports for trainees
  • Contribute to development of the service and protocols

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Must be able to work independently
  • Competent to write concise and accurate clinical reports
  • Work effectively in a potentially high pressure and emotive environment
  • Possess full understanding of ethical and moral issues to enable delivery of bad news to patients in an appropriate manner
  • Committed to providing a high quality ultrasound service for patients
  • Behave in a professional manner at all times
  • IT skills to use CRIS and PACS and have computer literacy
