Gweithio i'n sefydliad

The Medicine for Older People directorate’s primary focus is to provide care for our older population who may have multiple co morbidities and require complex care. We provide a comprehensive service including Stroke, Frailty, Dementia and specialist care of older persons.

We have 8 wards in total which includes 7 acute ward on the Royal Blackburn Hospital site and one specialist stroke rehabilitation ward at Pendle community Hospital. In January 2019 the Trust opened an Older Persons Rapid Assessment (OPRA) Unit, providing multidisciplinary comprehensive geriatric assessment as part of a developing acute frailty pathway. The OPRA Unit has 9 assessment areas and a 38 bedded ward. This forms our new Frailty Unit with consultant board rounds throughout the day and full Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) input. The aim of the unit is minimise hospital stay and maximise opportunities for recovery and independent living.

We are proud of our stroke services and our achievements within the Stroke Sentinel National Audit Programme (SSNAP) and we continue to develop and strengthen our stroke pathway to ensure patients receive a high standard of care in the right environment. Within this provision will be the development of a hyper acute stroke care unit, delivering Thrombolysis and Acute stroke care and stroke Rehabilitation.
