JOB TITLE:  Therapy Clinical Team Leader: Thoracic, Cardiac Surgery, Vascular and Cystic Fibrosis

BAND:  Band 7

BASE:  Your primary base will be the Glenfield Hospital however travel between UHL’s hospital sites will be required  

HOURS:  37.5 hours per week. Worked over a five day week. Monday to Sunday inclusive

REPORTS TO:  Therapy Specialty Lead

ACCOUNTABLE TO: Head of Therapy Services via the Therapy Specialty Lead

Main duties of the job

Due to maternity leave an opportunity has arisen for an HCPC registered Occupational Therapist or Physiotherapist to join our team as a Therapy Clinical Team Leader for 11 months.  The successful applicant will be directly responsible for the Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy Services within these clinical areas; Thoracic, Cardiac Surgery, Vascular and Cystic Fibrosis (based at Glenfield Hospital). This will enable an experienced clinician to work in an operational leadership role.

The Therapy Service comprises both Occupational Therapists and Physiotherapists and as such you will be required to operationally manage both professional groups and will demonstrate leadership skills and an ability to work with a wide variety of people at different levels and different disciplines. The successful candidate will also have the opportunity to work clinically.

You will work closely with the other Therapy Clinical Team Leaders within a well-defined and supportive Therapy Leadership Team, in order to ensure a responsive Therapy Service which meets the needs of the Trust, the challenges of a changing NHS and the requirements and expectations of our patients, their families and carers.

This role would suit an individual with a desire to combine clinical practice whilst developing their broader leadership skills, in order to influence service delivery and to provide the highest quality of care for our patients.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The Therapy Clinical Team Leader will:

  • Lead the implementation of service improvements and integration of services within a subspecialty in conjunction with the Therapy Speciality Lead and Therapy Head of Service
  • Ensure that the sub speciality Therapy team provide a service that is responsive to patient and referrers needs in the line with key stakeholder’s priorities
  • Lead operational day to day management for the Therapy team, and the services they provide within a sub specialty
  • To provide clinical leadership, work as an autonomous practitioner to provide specialist therapy assessments, diagnose and develop individualised treatment programmes based on patients needs, using advanced clinical reasoning skills and to develop own area of clinical practice within a specialty area
  • Be responsible for delivering high quality specialist Therapy to patients within the sub specialty
  • Support the Therapy Specialty Lead in their duties and to deputise in their absence
  • Ensure efficient and effective service delivery within a fast and pressurised environment
  • Work collaboratively with the Therapy management team to promote an integrated equitable Therapy service
  • Utilise prioritisation and time management skills to meet the unpredictable and conflicting needs of the service
  • Facilitate and undertake Clinical Audit, Service Evaluation and research within the specialty adhering to Trust and Research Policy
  • Deputise as appropriate for the Therapy Site Lead taking responsibility for the smooth efficient  running of the Therapy  departments

Participation in the joint Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy clinical weekend/bank holiday rosters is an expectation of this role.
