An exciting, fixed term opportunity covering maternity leave has arisen for a highly experienced Pharmacist to join our team as Lead Pharmacist for the HIV department.

We are looking for a motivated, forward-thinking, dynamic individual to join our team, we are looking for someone who is keen to learn, innovate and push the service forward. You will have excellent people skills and the ability to work with and influence staff at many levels. You will need to have a vision on how to develop and expand the service.

The post holder will be involved in the training and development of rotational pharmacists and Medicines Management Technicians within the team.

The successful applicant will be an experienced clinical pharmacist with substantial experience in providing clinical pharmacy services to our HIV service, who has successfully completed a Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy and is an independent prescriber or working towards this.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be a key member of the HIV team, delivering high quality medicines optimisation service to patients, whilst developing effective working relationships within the multidisciplinary team. 

They will be the lead for the HIV pharmacy department. You will be liaising with the relevant teams including consultants and nurses.

Education / Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • BPharm / BSc (pharmacy) / equivalent pharmacy degree
  • Postgraduate certificate in clinical pharmacy
  • Diploma in clinical pharmacy or equivalent
  • Non-medical prescribing qualification or willing to complete
  • GPhC registered
Desirable criteria
  • MSc in clinical pharmacy or equivalent

Skills/abilities

Essential criteria
  • Able to demonstrate a clear understanding of clinical pharmacy practice relating to HIV and Sexual Health
  • Aptitude for training and motivating others
  • To be an effective leader for a small team of pharmacists/technicians
  • Excellent time-management skills, and an ability to effectively prioritise
  • Ability to problem-solve
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with a range of HCPs and patients
  • Able to process complex clinical information in an accurate and timely manner
Desirable criteria
  • Management experience, including carrying out; appraisals & sickness management

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Significant relevant experience as a HIV clinical Pharmacist
  • Experience of undertaking prescription review of complex medication regimens individualised for HIV patients
  • Experience in effectively providing an HIV pharmacy service within an acute hospital setting
  • Experience in supporting patients’ adherence to complex medication
Desirable criteria
  • Innovation or service development experience
  • Change management experience

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Understanding of confidentiality issues
  • Comprehensive understanding of the NHS and clinical pharmacy services
  • An understand of current practice and policy relating to pharmacy and targets within the NHS
Desirable criteria
  • Awareness of quality and risk-management issues
  • Drug budget analysis and directorate reporting
