Job Summary

The Chelsea and Westminster Hospital Foundation Trust wishes to appoint a Consultant Neurologist. This post is being vacated by Dr Helen Grote, who is taking up a post in Scotland. Applicants are invited to join a growing, dynamic and forward-looking department of neurology and stroke medicine. The post will be a locum appointment for the duration of a year with a plan to advertise the substantive post prior to the end of this year.

 

The successful candidate will join a close team based at the Chelsea site made up of seven consultant neurologists and a stroke consultant.

 

The wider department includes a further three consultant neurologists (with a fourth to be appointed shortly) and three consultant stroke physicians based at the West Middlesex site.

The appointee will provide inpatient and outpatient services in busy, but well supported hospitals. The appointment will be 10PAs and will include 2 PAs at the Regional Neurosciences Unit at Charing Cross Hospital. There will be 3 general clinics at Chelsea & Westminster and a specialist clinic at Charing Cross in a subspecialty that is complementary to the needs of the services in both Trusts. The appointee will participate in the Regional neurology on call rota.

A provisional timetable denoting the allocation of fixed/non-fixed commitments is for Direct Clinical Care (DCC) 8.0 and Supporting professional activities (SPA) 2.0. The job plan will be subject to change in the future, subject to the needs of the service and in consultation with the post-holder. 

The post will initially attract 2.0 SPAs.  These are provided for personal CME/CPD, mandatory training, appraisal and revalidation, and medical student teaching. At the first annual job plan review, the SPA allocation will be reviewed in line with Trust Policy. 

Specific SPA objectives and outcomes will be agreed with the Service Lead within 3 months of appointment. Additional SPA e.g. a more significant teaching commitment, clinical or educational supervision etc, if agreed will be accommodated through job planning.

  • CCT in Neurology - equivalence must be confirmed by PMET/GMC by date of the interview
  • Entry on GMC Specialist Register OR eligible within 6 months of the date of the Advisory Appointments Committee
  • MRCP or equivalent

  • Peer reviewed research publications

Experience

  • Broad experience in Neurology including Stroke
  • Teaching experience / willingness to teach medical, nursing & other staff
  • Experience of audit / clinical research
