Senior Clinical Fellow in Medical Specialties (rotations available)

NHS Medical & Dental: Senior Clinical Fellow

About our Trust

Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is proud to be one of the top performing and safest trusts in England. We have two main acute hospital sites—Chelsea and Westminster Hospital and West Middlesex University Hospital, plus our award-winning clinics across North West London and beyond.

Our nearly 7,000 members of staff are proud to care for a diverse population of 1.5 million from the beginning to the end of life. Both hospitals provide full clinical services, including maternity, emergency and children’s, in addition to a range of community-based services across London, including our award-winning sexual health and HIV clinics.

We’re one of the safest and best performing Trusts in the country. We’re also one of the top trusts to work for—our staff say they’re engaged, motivated, and would recommend us as a place to work and receive treatment.

Our Trust has been rated by the Care Quality Commission as ‘Good’ in the domains of safe, effective, caring and responsive, and 'Outstanding' in the domains of well-led and use of resources.

Our facilities are among the best in the country. We invest around £10m a year in our estate and have recently completed a £30m expansion of our adult and neonatal critical care facilities at Chelsea and Westminster.  Works commence in spring 2024 on an ambitious £80m development of an Ambulatory Diagnostics Centre at our West Middlesex site.

Applications are welcomed from applicants who wish to apply for the position on the basis of a smarter or flexible working arrangement. Where candidates are successful at interview, such requests will be taken under consideration and accommodated where the needs of the service allow. As a flexible working friendly organisation, we want to be sure that you can work in a way that is best for us and for our patients, and for you.

Job overview

We have exciting Senior Clinical Fellow (Registrar level) opportunities available for candidates who wish to obtain training and broaden their experience in General and Acute Medicine and specific medical specialities in a London teaching hospital.

You will participate in a rota which will give you experience in general and acute medicine. The rotations may include opportunities in different departments including Respiratory Medicine, Care of the Elderly/Geriatric Medicine, Gastroenterology, Endocrinology and Diabetes, Cardiology, Acute Medicine, and General Internal Medicine. One or more specialty may be able to be accommodated e.g. 6 month rotations.

We also offer time for fellows to develop a special skill or interest, and all of our fellows are encouraged to participate in departmental and Trust initiatives as well as Quality Improvement projects.

Working in Medicine at West Middlesex Hospital offers a high performing, vibrant and thriving training environment, with excellent levels of senior presence and support and a large and dedicated multi-professional team.

Due to the high volumes of applications, we receive for certain posts and depending on our service needs, we reserve the right to close any adverts before the published closing date. After the closing date we strongly advise you check the email account which is registered. If you have not heard from us within five weeks of the closing date, please assume that you have not been shortlisted.

Main duties of the job

The main duties of the post involve Registrar level care of inpatients under the relevant medical specialty, working in clinic and outpatients, and performing the regular functions of a Medical Registrar.

You will be part of a consultant led team of other registrars and junior doctors and participate in daily Board rounds. There will be consultant ward rounds of new patients, with SpR led ward rounds of existing patients. There may be opportunity for interested individuals to carry out supervised outpatient clinics and MDTs. The post holder will participate in the General Medical on calls or Acute Medical on calls at SpR level.

The Registrar will liaise with the consultant, nurses and other staff to allocate the day’s activity appropriately.

The Registrar will be expected to assess and manage patients with the support of the consultant and using appropriate clinical guidelines.

There are multiple multi-disciplinary meetings between doctors, nursing staff, and specialist teams for the care of patients.

Working for our organisation

We provide services from two main hospitals, Chelsea and Westminster Hospital and West Middlesex University Hospital, and a number of clinics across London and the South-East. We have over 6,000 members of staff that are PROUD to Care for nearly one million people. Both hospitals provide full clinical services, including full maternity, emergency and children’s, in addition to a range of community-based services across London, such as award-winning sexual health and HIV clinics.

We’re one of the best preforming Trusts in the country. We’re also one of the top trusts to work for – our staff say they’re engaged, motivated, and would recommend us as a place to work and receive treatment.

Our Trust has been rated by the Care Quality Commission as ‘Good’ in all five of the main domains of safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led, giving an us overall rating of ‘Good’. We’ve also been awarded an ‘Outstanding’ rating for ‘use of resources’ by an NHS Improvement inspection.

Our facilities are some of the best in the country. We have been investing around £10 million a year in our estate. We are currently spending £25 million on expanding our adult and neonatal critical care facilities at Chelsea and Westminster and redevelopment of our children’s unit at West Middlesex – in partnership with our charity, CW+ and generous donors.
