Applications are invited for enthusiastic, motivated and committed individuals to join our friendly team within the Emergency Department as the post of Senior Clinical Fellow.
This post offers the opportunity to work on a registrar rota alongside Emergency Medicine trainees and is suitable for doctors with at least 4 years postgraduate experience.
As an Integrated Care Organisation, Whittington Health is commissioned to provide acute and community services to meet the needs of our diverse population. The Emergency Department has a co-located Urgent Care Centre, and a Clinical Decision Unit with well-established pathways and a multidisciplinary team. There is a dedicated Children’s Emergency Department.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The post will offer a wide range of experience in all aspects of both Adult and Paediatric Emergency Medicine and would be suitable for those planning a career in Emergency Medicine. However, due to the variety of work and the development of a leadership role, it would also be asset for anyone wishing to pursue a career in any acute specialty or general practice. It may also suit those who have followed an unconventional career path with a variety of previous experience in acute specialties who wish to consolidate and develop their clinical and leadership skills. We would welcome applications from overseas trainees with experience of Emergency Medicine who wish to work in the NHS.
You will assess patients and initiate treatment working with a multidisciplinary team and will assist the consultants in the supervision of the more junior doctors and in the safe and effective running of the Emergency Department.
You will work on a shift basis with other registrars e.g. Specialty Trainees (ST3 and above) or Specialty Doctors, such that cover is provided in the Emergency Department 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
There is shop-floor consultant cover Mon – Fri (08:00-22:30) and at weekends (12:00-20:00), with telephone cover at all other times. The ED Consultants are committed to the supervision and development of these posts. One will act as your Educational Supervisor, helping you gain the development and competencies you seek.

Eligibility
Essential criteria
- Must have full GMC membership.
Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Achieved a primary medical qualification as recognised by the General Medical Council
- Completed 4 years full time postgrad training. At least 2 will be in a relevant specialty or have equivalent experience and competencies
Clinical Knowledge and Skills
Essential criteria
- Be familiar with and be able to demonstrate an understanding and experience of the major principles of the GMC’s Good Medical Practice (2012)
- Completion of F2 competencies (or equivalent), or at least 2 years post qualification clinical experience
Experience & Attributes
Essential criteria
- At least two years working in Emergency Medicine.
- Experience working at registrar level in an Emergency Department
Desirable criteria
- Any teaching experience or completion of relevant courses.
- Completion of audit and any changes instigated following audit.
Courses
Essential criteria
- To have up to date ALS.
Desirable criteria
- To have up to date APLS, ATLS.
