We have a Health and Justice Services Directorate, within which sits the ‘Children and Young People’ Service line working in partnership with ‘Youth Custody Service’ colleagues to provide, trauma-informed primary care, mental health, neuro-developmental and substance misuse services to those within our care

It is  our quest to deliver patient-focused, developmentally appropriate, quality care; promoting a trauma informed environment, supporting young people and young adults to understand their own health and wellbeing needs and maximise all opportunities to achieve their own health and personal goals

We are looking to recruit a highly motivated, innovative and enthusiastic Band 6 Paramedic to join our Integrated Healthcare Service at HMP YOI Feltham. Feltham is effectively two separate establishments delivering healthcare services to Young people in Feltham A (15-19 years) and  young adults in Feltham BBy joining our team, you will not only look after the healthcare needs of the young people we care for, but also have the opportunity to have a real impact on promoting health and well-being

  • Undertake line management responsibility for a team of staff ensuring appropriate deployment and supervision of staff
  • To provide skilled general care and advice to patients within the prison
  • To work as part of a multi-disciplinary team assessing the health needs of patients; to provide and evaluate care given and implement changes as required
  • To be able to work autonomously, as well as part of the wider team delivering health care to the standard equitable to that found within the wider community
  • To provide holistic care in a unique environment based on a primary care model that encourages patient engagement to an often socially excluded group

Professional Leadership

  • Provide professional team leadership and support to all members of the Healthcare team.
  • Maintain a professional manner and act as a role model
  • To facilitate the healthcare team’s compliance with CNWL and Prison policies, procedures and guideline ensuring adherence at all times
  • Support the formulation of policies/protocols within sphere of work
  • Participate in and provide clinical and management supervision and facilitate others to engage in the process
  • Act as an excellent role model to junior nursing staff, nursing assistants and students setting, implementing and monitoring the highest professional standards
  • Manage time and resources effectively with an ability to prioritise workload and working flexibly to meet the needs of the service
  • Supervise and ensure effective use of clinical stock
  • Ensure staff and own adherence to medicines management policies to reduce wastage and contribute to cost saving efficiencies
  • Line management for an allocated group of staff undertaking PDR/KSF reviews, absence management and first stage grievance and disciplinary
  • Participate in the Recruitment and Selection of new staff
  • Supervise and allocate daily workload, ensuring that the team’s human resources are deployed accordingly to meet service needs
  • Act as the Healthcare liaison during prison serious incident situations for example hostage taking or death in custody.
  • Ensure that own and others practice is evidence based and in line with CNWL and Local Clinical Guidelines
  • Support the monitoring of quality and practice standards within the team by identifying and reporting any issues relating to poor clinical standards to the Primary Care Lead or senior manager in their absence
  • Support the clinical governance framework by identifying own and others training needs and the identification of potential clinical risks within the team
  • Work collaboratively with other specialist nurses within the prison to ensure effective clinic provision and integrated packages of care
  • Ensure that the service is delivered in line with CNWL and prison policies in relation to health and safety and infection prevention and control
  • Participate in quality initiatives to promote the development of the service

Undertake incident and complaint investigations and formulate appropriate action plans.

  • Registered General Nurse or Registered Paramedic with previous post qualification experience

  • Mentoring (e.g. ENB 998 or MSPP)
  • Non medical prescribing

Experience

  • Previous setting experience of working within a secure
  • Previous experience of working at a Band 6 level
  • Previous experience of working within a primary care setting
  • Previous experience of leading a team

Knowledge
