Job overview

We are looking to appoint a substantive Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising in shoulder and upper limb surgery. You will be joining a Royal Free London wide orthopaedic department with a large body of consultant surgeons. We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join our existing dynamic and skilled trauma and orthopaedic consultant team. The successful candidate may be expected to work across the trust’s main sites (Royal Free NHS Foundation Trust, Chase Farm Hospital and Barnet General Hospital) with the base site and main trauma activity occurring on the Barnet Hospital site.

Main duties of the job

The post is a full-time Consultant post in Orthopaedics. The on-call commitment will be based at the Barnet General Hospital with the majority of elective sessions carried out at the Chase Farm Elective Orthopaedic Centre. Trauma theatre sessions will be undertaken at both the Royal Free and Barnet General Hospitals, with regular clinics likely to be undertaken at two of the three sites.  The postholder will not be required to attend multiple sites on one given day.

Applicants should possess full GMC registration, and either be on the Specialist Register or be within 6 months of receiving their Certificate of Completion of Training

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

We are very pleased to invite applications for a full time consultant trauma and

orthopaedic Surgeon at the Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust with a

subspecialty interest in shoulder and upper limb surgery. The successful candidate may

be expected to work across the trusts main sites (Barnet Hospital, Chase Farm Hospital

and Royal Free Hospital), but the base site and trauma activity will be on the Barnet

Hospital site.

 

This post will join and complement the existing group of orthopaedic surgeons who have

a wide range of interests in elective surgery and orthopaedic trauma and aim to expand

and develop these services.

 

We are seeking to appoint a trauma and orthopaedic surgeon with a sub specialist

interest in shoulder and upper limb surgery. The successful candidate will become part of

the 24 consultant orthopaedic surgical team. The on call commitment will be carried out

at Barnet Hospital. The majority of the elective work will be carried out on the Chase

Farm Hospital site.

 

We hope that the individual will play an active role in helping to expand the upper limb

service at the Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Minimum of 6 years experience in T&O surgery
  • Fellowship experience in subspecialty interest and Trauma or equivalent
Desirable criteria
  • Previous consultant experience in subspecialty interest
