Job overview

Cardiothoracic Critical Care Unit is the North West centre for Cardiopulmonary Transplantation, including the VAD (ventricular assist device) programme, an established respiratory ECMO service and as part of our heart failure service we are able to provide cardiac ECMO. It consists of a 26 bedded purpose built Cardiothoracic Critical Care Unit and 5 bedded satellite Post Operative Recovery Unit, combining both level 3 and level 2 care.

As a team, we are committed to delivering the highest standards of care, and encourage and support staff development with our excellent practice education team who provide continuous support throughout. 

Main duties of the job

We are a fast paced 31 bedded critical care unit. Caring for level 3 and level 2 patients who require critical care due to surgery, trauma, heart failure and many other reasons.  

We offer  excellent in house training courses for new staff who join the team, as well as  continued a staff development with various courses available.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • First level registration
  • Registered Nurse Degree or Diploma
Desirable criteria
  • Degree level 6 study
  • Diploma

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of working on own and as part of a team
  • Ability to supervise and support junior staff
  • Evidence of teaching and assessing skills/ability
  • Awareness of clinical Audit
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence undertaking a mentor/preceptor role
  • Experience in relevant area of practice
