Job overview

We are excited to be recruiting a Band 6 Continence Nurse to work alongside our established Continence Support Worker and Continence Nurses.

If you are a Registered Childrens Nurse or Learning Disabilities Nurse then this may be the post for you. We will offer in-house and external training, the opportunity to develop your skills within a community setting and within the specialist field of Children’s Continence. In return we ask for your passion and commitment to providing excellent care and the continued development of our service.

We provide a countywide service offering Continence Assessment, Treatment, Education and Support to children from 4-18 years of age, advice and support to our Universal Services Colleagues and other colleagues from the Primary Care Setting.  Our children are seen within clinic settings, their homes and schools and we offer regular telephone support. We employ a Three System Approach to Continence Management, undertake regular training and liaison with Tertiary Colleagues to ensure that care is delivered to the highest standards and within NICE Guidance.

Main duties of the job

The Childrens Continence Service is part of the Children and Young Persons Specialist Nursing Team.  The service provides initial assessment and ongoing evaluation of the continence needs of children and young people throughout Northamptonshire. The service provides rehabilitation where appropriate and the provision of continence products where continence is not able to be achieved.

The post holder will assist the Lead Clinician for Children’s Continence and the wider Community Children’s Nursing Team within an Integrated Continence Pathway.  The Post Holder will work within an integrated skills mix team to provide high quality and accessible care for Children and Young People within Northamptonshire. 

The post holder should act as an advocate for Children and Young People on the caseload.

The post holder will provide care within clinic settings and within the child’s home/school

Safeguarding is a key element of responsibility for all staff within the team and the Post Holder should adhere to protocols at all times and support staff members with Safeguarding issues
