If so, we have an exciting opportunity for a patient-orientated Medicines Management Technician (MMT), to join the pharmacy team supporting a variety of wards across Oxford Health. 

Medicines optimisation is at the heart of the service we provide, so if you are registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council and have experience in, or  have a passion for mental health pharmacy, we would love to hear from you.

Main duties of the job

Our MMTs are based on a clinical site in Oxford, providing a pharmacy service to different wards and departments within the directorate. The ability to travel between sites (e.g. to Wiltshire) will be essential for this role, as well as having good communication, problem solving, prioritisation and organisational skills. You will also be expected to develop a good working relationship with patients, carers and healthcare professionals, and to ensure patients receive the highest standard of care, in accordance with Government legislation and guidance, and local and national procedures.

As a ward base Medicines Management Technician, you will:

  • Be an effective and proactive team member of our team, physically based on the Littlemore site in Oxford. However, the ability to travel between sites will be required e.g. once weekly visit to our Wiltshire wards.
  • Be responsible for the supply of medication to patients.
  • Complete Medicines reconciliation for our newly admitted patients.
  • Provide medicines management support to wards, including Mental health specialities such as Eating disorders, Child and Adolescent as well as Adults of working age.
  • Participate in discharge planning.
  • Ensure compliance with Mental Health Act requirements, relating to medicines.
  • Provide dispensary support as per rota.
  • Be registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council.
  • Support service improvement and becoming an integral part of the clinical team.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The Oxford Health Pharmacy & Medicines Management service employs approximately 80 staff, predominantly clinical pharmacists, and technicians, supported by dispensary and administrative staff. Clinical pharmacists and medicines management technicians (MMTs) are based on clinical sites with supply and support functions at hubs in Oxfordshire. The department provides services to our mental health and community hospital patients, alongside other community-based patients and teams.

Our Medicines Management Service is highly respected within and beyond Oxford Health and our staff are considered integrated members of patient-focused multi-disciplinary teams.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • GPhC registered Pharmacy Technician
Desirable criteria
  • Medicines management accreditation
  • Accredited Checking Technician

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Competence in the use of Microsoft Office (i.e.spreadsheets word processing, presentation software
  • Ability to use a Pharmacy patient record and supply system

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Technician experience in pharmacy setting.
Desirable criteria
  • Experience in hospital pharmacy
  • Experience in mental health pharmacy
