Fielding ward is looking for a motivated, enthusiastic and experienced Staff nurse who is looking for the opportunity for career development. The successful candidate will support the Ward Sister whilst providing excellent clinical leadership to the whole team whilst enabling you to develop your own management and leadership skills.

 

 

Fielding ward is a 27 bedded ward which cares for patients who have cardiac related conditions. The ward is a fast turnover environment, therefore, you will require the skills to be able to work under pressure, use your initiative and have the ability to work as part of a large MDT team, you will also have the opportunity to develop skills and gain competencies by working within the Cardiology department and gaining an understanding of caring for cardiac patients.

We are looking for individuals who can provide strong clinical and managerial leadership and are highly motivated with excellent communication skills.

The Junior Sister role requires a close working relationship with our multi-professional team to ensure that evidence-based quality care is delivered with compassion to every patient and their families.

To provide effective clinical and managerial leadership of a ward, in the absence of the senior Ward Sister, which empowers staff to deliver patient- centred, evidence-based nursing care within a defined budget.

Establish systems for a multi-disciplinary approach to patient-centred care delivery, which builds on the philosophy of greater involvement of patients and their relatives/carers by using the Trusts patient and public involvement strategy.

Delivers patient care daily.

Supports the Senior Ward Sister and in her absence is responsible for all aspects of staff management, including the recruitment process of staff, sickness and performance monitoring, adhering to Trust Human resource policies, to ensure a fair and consistent approach when dealing with staff issues, under the guidance of the Matron or Associate Director of Patient Care.

Contributes to creating an environment that is conducive to learning, by providing reading material and teaching sessions for a group of staff, or on a one-to-one basis and give support to staff undertaking new or advanced roles.

Take responsibility for ensuring on a shift-by-shift basis, that the Trust policy for clinical incident reporting is followed. Support the Senior Ward Sister to use the learning from incidents in a positive way to develop or change practice.

You will participate in the development of the service by supporting and implementing changes using evidence bases guidelines and procedure to standardise care delivery and participate in the ongoing effectiveness of the service and standards of care by contributing to the audit processes.

Communicate with patients, relatives, and staff in an empathetic way, both face to face or by telephone giving reassurance and developing co-operation in achieving good outcomes on a frequent daily basis.

Is visible and accessible to patients, visitors, and users of the service, proactively promoting the role and responsibilities of the ward sister.

Implement “best practice” in the management of the staff resource in accordance with Improving Working Lives, Agenda for Change and other legislation as required.

  • First Level/Supervisory Management Qualification or Course

Knowledge

  • Knowledge of relevant NHS legislation to include clinical governance/COSHH/Health and Safety/Infection Control/Clinical Waste/Manual Handling / PEAT / Confidentiality and the Data Protection Act
  • Basic computer literacy in I.H.S system in the organization and basic word processing, e mail
  • Basic knowledge of the Patient and Public Involvement agenda
  • Up to date knowledge of current evidence-based practice in nursing
