Join our newly formed Front Door team at Universities Hospital and Weston NHS Trust (UHBW) as a band 6 Occupational Therapist and be apart of this exciting time as we transform Weston General Hospital.

Based at a small dynamic hospital in the seaside town of Weston-Super-Mare, and only a stones-throw from its two-mile long sandy beach, you will also benefit from being part of a large specialist NHS teaching trust with sites across Bristol and North Somerset.

This new, friendly, supportive and proactive team support front door services at Weston General Hospital (WGH); covering the emergency department (ED), the older person’s assessment unit (OPAU) and our Medical Assessment Unit (MAU). We are thrilled to launch the recruitment drive for dynamic, proactive, forward thinking therapists to join this team.

We are looking for:

  • Highly motivated, proactive and innovative therapists, who are passionate about service delivery, development and improvement.
  • Therapists with strong clinical and developing leadership skills to work closely with the integrated therapy teams, the Front Door and community multi-disciplinary teams (MDT) to deliver high quality care to our patients.

This therapy team will deliver high quality care and management for a range of patients presenting to the ED, OPAU and MAU at WGH. Such as those presenting with falls, reduced mobility, respiratory conditions, etc. The team will work alongside our award winning GEMS teams to ensure all patients no matter their presentation and background receive the best care.               

In service training programmes and staff appraisal systems are in operation to help you develop to meet the demands of the post.

Qualifications and Training

  • State registered with HCPC
  • Diploma/Degree in Occupational Therapy

Knowledge and Experience

  • Experience of managing a general medical &/ or care of the elderly caseload as a Band 5 in a hospital setting and completed a variety of band 5 rotations
  • Experience of working alongside unqualified OT staff
  • Staff have completed a variety of rotations as a Band 5/ 6

  • Experience of working in an acute hospital setting

Skills and Abilities

  • Able to prioritise & organise own caseload in both acute as well as rehabilitative setting
  • Able to recognise own supervisory needs & respond positively to suggestions for improvement
  • Able to demonstrate effective team working skills
  • Able to identify own strengths & weaknesses in clinical practice & knowledge
  • Able to demonstrate they have the skills to supervise others
  • Basic IM&T skills sufficient to input data from hospital systems
  • Able to travel between sites
  • Knowledge of different prioritisation methods
  • Evidence of regular professional reviews and / or portfolio
