Band 2

Our award winning trusts recognise that our colleagues are our most valuable resource, we are proud of the excellent levels of service our Trust provides to our service users and the dedication and conscientiousness of our colleagues. With over 10,000 colleagues working for our trusts in a very wide range of services, we aim to provide a supportive, inclusive environment in which our colleagues can thrive.

Job overview

This position is a great entry level role into the inpatient pharmacy at Yeovil Hospital.

The primary task of a rotational pharmacy assistant is to work between the dispensary and distribution services. In the dispensary you will dispense for YDH inpatients and our local community and mental health teams. The dispensary has a team of approx 10 staff which are a mix of pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, trainee pharmacists and trainee technicians, assistants and support workers. In distribution services you will receive deliveries and put away stock, top up wards, dispense stock CD's and visit the IV store (this does include an element of heavy lifting).

We pride ourselves on our caring working environment, we encourage people to learn from their mistakes and have a no-blame culture. We look after each other as if we were family and it's a great place to meet like minded people.  We always listen to people's ideas and take time to make improvements to processes and working conditions based on what our staff feed back to us.

Working weekends is a requirement but this will only be 1 in 8. (We work 9-2 on Saturdays and 10-2 on Sundays) Once a year you will work a bank holiday and once a year you will do a Saturday 11-4 shift.) You can swap within your team if you have something planned.

Main duties of the job

  • Dispensing inpatient work, clinics, Somerset community and mental health work.
  • Answering phone and hatch and deal with queries
  • Organising and dispensing medication that is on order
  • Expiry date checking and maintaining a clean and tidy working environment
  • Topping up wards and picking stock
