Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen to be part of the administration team in The Wheelchair Service Team. The team is responsible for the assessment and provision of standard wheelchairs and special seating. The service operates from the Mobility and Specialised Rehabilitation Centre (M&SRC) and is part of the Specialised Rehabilitation Services (SRS) directorate.
The Wheelchair Service Officer role within the Wheelchair Service is varied and challenging. It involves interacting with patients over the telephone and face to face, understanding patient’s needs and learning about new equipment being prescribed to patients.
The job also involves a wide range of administration duties including recording and maintaining information on the Wheelchair Service database.
You will be responsible for prescribing standard chairs; triaging referrals; arranging the supply, repair, modification and collection of equipment; action requests for home visits and checking invoices. You will also liaise with patients about Personal Wheelchair Budgets and how they can access these.
Main duties of the job
The purpose of the role is to provide administrative support to the Wheelchair Services Team. Tasks will include prescribing standard wheelchairs, providing patients with information regarding Personal Wheelchair Budgets and other general admin duties. This also involves liaising with suppliers and approved repairers as well as with patients, both face-to-face and over the telephone.
You will be expected to support provision of the highest standard of care to all patients and contribute to the overall efficiency and development of the service.

Essential criteria
- Educated to GCSE Grade C/4 English and Maths or above or equivalent qualification/experience
Desirable criteria
- ECDL Parts I and II
- Customer Care Training
Experience
Essential criteria
- IT literate
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Effective interpersonal skills
- Demonstrate a tactful understanding when dealing with a variety of people and situations
- Ability to work under pressure
Desirable criteria
- Previous NHS experience.
- Wheelchair knowledge Disability Awareness
- ECDL Training (ongoing or completed).
