Job overview

Applications are invited for the post of Junior Clinical Fellow in Vascular Surgery to be based at the Northern General Hospital to commence from ASAP for a period of 6 months, extendable by mutual agreement.

The post does not award a National Training Number.  As this post is not recognised as a ‘training post’, full registration with the GMC with a licence to practise is required, and if the appointee does not hold right of residence in the UK sponsorship will be required. The duties of this post are equivalent to FY2/ Core ST1-ST2 Level.

 

Main duties of the job

 

The post is designed for candidates looking to improve and consolidate their surgical exposure in vascular surgery and enhance their portfolio with a focus on experiential learning in Quality improvement science.

The successful candidates must be registered with the GMC with a licence to practise in line with the introduction of revalidation on 16 November 2009

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The appointee will be expected to work as part of the Vascular Surgical teams to deliver clinical care, and participate in daily ward rounds every weekday morning. The post holder will be expected to attend theatre sessions and clinics as allocated.  Participation in the local vascular learning programme is mandatory. It is expected that the post holder will complete at least one PDSA cycle of a quality improvement project and present at local level. Depending upon interest and progress support is available to prepare for MRCS and more in-depth Quality improvement project leading to publications. The on call duties will be in supernumerary capacity for personal development in a 1:6 to 1:8 day time shift pattern.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered with the GMC with a licence to practise
  • Basic Medical Degree MBChB or equivalent Postgraduate professional qualifications as appropriate to post

Research

Desirable criteria
  • Publications in Peer reviewed journals

Clinical experience

Essential criteria
  • Completion of foundation training or equivalent
  • NHS Experience (excluding observership)

Continuous Professional Development

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of participation in CME/CPD in the last 12 months
Desirable criteria
  • Maintenance of a CPD diary or portfolio ISCP competence identified within Vascular Surgery Curriculum
  • Satisfactorily completion ATLS/CCRiSP/ Basic Surgery Skills course

Management and Administration

Essential criteria
  • Team working:- able to work productively in a MDT environment and values the input of other professionals in the team

Personal attributes

Essential criteria
