This appointment is for a full time Specialty Doctor in Older Adult Services. The post holder will be responsible for working with the Community Mental Health Team for Older People (CMHTOP) Mid, based at Horizon.

Main duties of the job

We will support your personal and professional growth through our extensive training opportunities.The post holder will be supported to further their interest in community mental health and medical education, and towards furthering their career.

It is expected that the Specialty Doctor would support any trainees attached to the team. All the work of the Specialty Doctor will be under the supervision of the consultant psychiatrist.

There is dedicated half-a-day for special interest and additional half-a-day for academic meeting and CPD.

It would be desirable for the postholder to have at least three years’ experience in general psychiatry at SHO level. The post holder will be assisted with S12 application.

The main duties of the post holder will be:

To carry out assessments and reviews of patients referred/open to the CMHTOP including care homes.

Participate in weekly MDT meetings.

Contribute and/or lead on CPA/Family meetings.

Support the wider CMHTOP with joint reviews as needed.

Involvement in service development projects/reviews under the guidance of the consultant.

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • MB BS or equivalent recognised medical qualification
  • Full medical registration with a license to practice.
  • Approval under Section 12 of the Mental Health Act (or within 6 to 12 months of the time of interview/assessment) or equivalent
Desirable criteria
  • Relevant higher degree, e.g. MD, PhD, MSc or other additional clinical qualifications
  • MRCPsych or equivalent
  • Management qualification or evidence of an interest in developing leadership skills

Clinical Skills, Knowledge & Experience

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge of Knowledge of legislation, Department of Health Guidance and literature and its implications for clinical practice.Psychiatric provision
  • Knowledge of NHS strategic vision in the Next Stage Review (High-Quality Care for All)
  • Ability to meet duties under MHA and MCA
  • Experience working with various patient groups presenting with the full range of clinical severity across different care settings, including community, inpatient, and specialist teams.
  • Evidence of effective multidisciplinary team involvement and experience
  • Knowledge of psychiatric provision
Desirable criteria
  • Wide range of specialist and sub-specialist experience relevant to post within NHS or comparable service
  • Experience in management

Eligibitity

Essential criteria
  • Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at the time of appointment.
  • Included on the GMC Specialist Register OR within six months.
Desirable criteria
  • In good standing with GMC concerning warnings and conditions on practice
  • Approved clinician status OR able to achieve within three months of appointment
