We are seeking a Pharmacy Technician with substantial experience in hospital pharmacy, capable of supervising other staff and managing day-to-day pharmacy services within the emergency department.

In this newly created role, you'll lead and manage a specific aspect of our pharmacy service, ensuring compliance with national and local standards while delivering patient-centred care. You will work closely with the emergency department multi-disciplinary team and your expertise will be crucial in educating patients and caregivers, optimising medicines, and ensuring effective medicines management services.

Main duties of the job

This exciting new post at Morriston hospital comes with a range of key responsibilities and duties. 

The role requires independent working, strong leadership, alongside excellent communication and problem-solving skills. A positive and adaptable attitude is essential, promoting respect for others' views and encouraging a friendly, helpful disposition. You will engage with staff at all levels, both internally and externally to the organisation, and handle complex and sensitive information with professionalism and care.

As a Senior Pharmacy Technician, you will play a vital role in the medicine management at ward level. You will actively engage in discharge prescription assembly, checking prescriptions dispensed at the ward level, and ensuring the efficient and cost-effective supply of medicines for inpatients and discharging patients. 

Continuous professional development, teamwork, and the ability to handle challenging situations will be instrumental in maintaining the highest standards of pharmaceutical care.

You will also be required to participate in weekend, Bank Holiday and out of hours rotas as dictated by the needs of the service

Overall, your role as a Senior Pharmacy Technician will be critical in ensuring patient safety, providing high-quality pharmaceutical services, and supporting the smooth functioning of the pharmacy department within Morriston Hospital.

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge of pharmaceutical technical procedures acquired through training NVQ 3 and BTEC
  • Accredited Medicines Management Technician
  • Accredited Checking Technician.
  • Significant experience of working in a hospital pharmacy department or equivalent.
  • Ability to supervise other staff.
  • Ability to manage the day to day provision of pharmacy service within area.
  • Shows empathy and compassion towards other
  • Good communicator, motivated, able to work as part of a team.
  • Commitment to continuing personal development (CPD).
  • Innovative and well organised.
Desirable criteria
  • BTEC Level 4 Professional Diploma in Pharmacy Clinical Services
  • Computer Literate
