A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a self-motivated, proactive individual to join our close knit dynamic team. This position is suited to someone who is enthusiastic and passionate about making a difference for our patients and who is looking to apply their skills in a thriving and supportive workplace.
The Restorative Dentistry service is provided exclusively to those patients needing specialised care for acquired or congenital oro-facial defects. Experience of high quality prosthetics, oral defect obturators and specialist implant retained prosthetics including dentures/bridges are an essential requirement. Other essential requirements are also relevant advanced level qualification. Experience of semi precision attachments, complex chrome frameworks would be an advantage, as would a working knowledge of Orthodontic and Maxillofacial Technology.

The laboratory service based within the department provides technical support to the Orthodontic, Maxillofacial and Restorative Departments as well as running a Clinical Prosthetics service to local NHS Trust hospitals. The individual will be a good team player and able to communicate effectively with all grades of staff both verbally and written. We work closely with other team members with the common goal of producing dental technical work and problem solving to the highest standards. The successful candidate will have exceptional physical skills and exacting standards to complement sound theoretical knowledge.
Applications will be considered from candidates who are currently studying towards their postgraduate qualification. If successful at interview the band 6 salary will be eligible on completion of this course; Band 5 will be payable during study.

The Laboratory operates a 5 day working week Monday to Friday and the applicant will be required to work 37.5 hours per week over 5 days.
Informal visits to the laboratories are strongly encouraged and can be arranged with the Laboratory Manager.

- Experience in advanced restorative dentistry techniques complex full and partial dentures
- Knowledge of relevant material science, use of bio-compatible materials, chemistry and toxicology as applied to Restorative/prosthodontic rehabilitation
- Demonstrable experience of advanced techniques associated with Osseo integrated implant systems.

- Experience working with an oncology restorative service and the treatment pathway
- Experience working in a hospital production laboratory.
- Experience of 3D printing and associated software packages
Skills

- Ability to design and construct advanced fixed and removable prosthodontic, non-routine devices for restorative implantology.
- Ability to communicate clearly with clinical staff about patients and their care using effective interpersonal skills.
- Ability to problem solve and work unsupervised using own judgement
- Desire to produce work of only the highest quality, manipulating materials, components and fine tools working to a high degree of precision.
- Able to work effectively whilst under pressure
- Take an active role in the development of the 3D Digital service
- Able to evaluate the potential benefit of new ideas to restorative patient care as well as its impact on financial requirement.
- Ability to work with other team members to analyse and design highly complex treatment plans for the construction of complex full and partial dentures, implants and precision attachments.

Qualifications

- BSC in Dental Science/ Dental Technology or historical equivalent.
- Post qualification in a relevant subject/MSc Prosthodontic technology (consideration will be given to candidates in the final year of study for this qualification and if successful at interview they will be eligible for the band 6 on completion of their course).
- Registration with the GDC Council
