Specialist Clinical/Counselling Psychologist

Band 7

Job overview

Interviews will be held on 29 July 2024.

We are looking for a motivated Specialist Clinical/Counselling Psychologist to join the Berkshire Traumatic Stress Service (BTSS). BTSS is a specialist service providing assessment and treatment for adults with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).

You will provide a specialist clinical psychology service for clients of the Berkshire Traumatic Stress Service, experiencing symptoms/difficulties consistent with PTSD and/or C-PTSD. This will involve specialist and expert psychological assessment, formulation and treatment (trauma focused CBT, EMDR, NET and compassion focussed therapy, in both group and individual formats), as well as, offering advice and consultation on clients’ psychological care to multidisciplinary mental health staff, IAPT clinicians and other, non-professional carers.

You will be part of a dedicated and friendly team of psychologists committed to providing the best care for traumatised individuals.

You will be based at Erlegh House on the University of Reading. The location has plenty of car parking, access to green spaces and local shops and restaurants.

We offer a blended model of delivery including face to face and online working from our well-resourced clinic space or from home when appropriate.

Main duties of the job

1.   To provide specialist psychological assessments of clients referred to the BTSS based upon the appropriate use, interpretation and integration of complex data from a variety of sources including psychological and neuropsychological tests, self-report measures, rating scales, direct and indirect structured observations and semi-structured interviews with clients, family members and others involved in the client’s care.

2.  To formulate and implement plans for the formal psychological treatment and/or management of a client’s PTSD and complex PTSD based upon an appropriate conceptual framework of the client’s problems, and employing methods based upon evidence based practice.

3.     To be responsible for implementing a range of psychological interventions for individuals and groups, within NICE guidance and evidence-based practice.

4.  To evaluate and make decisions about treatment options taking into account both theoretical and therapeutic models and highly complex factors concerning historical and developmental processes that have shaped the individual’s presentation.
