Main duties of the job

We are pleased to invite candidates to apply for this Band 2 Health Care Assistant role working in the Theatre Department at Lymington Hospital (NHS, UHS) Trust.

This role is based at Lymington New Forest Hospital in the south of the New Forest, Hampshire.

Lymington Surgical Unit is currently a Monday to Friday Service with the potential of development in the future to a 6 day working week.

Working within the theatre department you will be working alongside clinicians, registered practitioners and other HCAs. Where required you will also link with the day ward and out patients teams.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Experience would be an advantage, however the relevant training will be provided within the unit.

Within this wide ranging role you will be offered opportunities to develop both clinically and professionally within a supportive environment.

You will be working alongside clinicians, registered practitioners and other health care support workers, as well as admin support staff.

Within the theatre department you will work across multiple specialities working as a circulator in theatres and assisting in recovery, caring for patients post-operatively. You will act as the patient advocate and support them through the perioperative period.

Shifts cover a 5 day service Monday to Friday 8-6 (potential in the future to cover a 6 day service). Your shifts will usually run over 4 days 8-6, occasionally this may change to 3 full days and 2 half days dependant on clinical requirements.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Completed care certificate or ability to complete within 6 months of appointment.
Desirable criteria
  • BTEC level 2 or above in health and social care. Interested in undertaking further training.
  • Level 3 qualification; BTEC, L3 diploma, A levels.

Previous or relevant experience

Desirable criteria
  • Previous experience in: Acute hospital setting. HCA experience. Volunteer sector Teaching Assistant Nursing home carer Experience in a caring role
  • Understanding of acute hospital environment and the role of HCA
