Job overview

This is an exciting opportunity to work within our MSK Physiotherapy Service in East Berkshire; we are looking to recruit an enthusiastic and innovative candidate to a Band 6 Musculoskeletal Practitioner positionWe would encourage applications from physiotherapists and osteopaths with a relevant MSK degree level qualification and registration with the relevant professional body (HCPC or GOsC) .We will also consider a band 5/6 developmental post based on experience; once established competencies have been achieved, the post would convert to Band 6.   

 

We receive a wide variety of referrals from GP surgeries and Orthopaedic clinics.   We offer excellent in-service training, one to one clinical development and regular peer support to all our Band 6 staff. Every member of staff also receives a comprehensive yearly appraisal to assist in their development. Funding for external courses may be available, as well as the opportunity to attend in-house courses. We have excellent clinical and administrative teams ranging from Bands 2 – 7 and you will have access to our Clinical Specialists for mentoring and In-Service Training. 

Main duties of the job

  • Work at a high level of clinical skill seeing a caseload of MSK referrals mainly consisting of GP referrals 

  • Supervising band 3,4 and 5 physiotherapists and physio technicians 

  • Involved in the clinical education of physiotherapy students 

  • Service development and involved in the service Quality Improvement drive.  

This post is open to those looking for part time or full time work. The service operates Monday to Friday between 07:30-18:00 depending on site – there will be a level of flexibility in the hours you work depending on service need. We continue to maintain an element of virtual working at the moment alongside face to face clinical work.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The 4 “must haves” for you to be considered for this role:  

  1. Qualified Physiotherapist with HCPC registration or Osteopath with GOsC registration  

  1. Previous MSK physiotherapy experience at Band 5 level or comparative  

  1. Sound clinical reasoning and MSK knowledge

Person specification

Education/Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Diploma / Degree in Physiotherapy
  • HCPC/GOsC Registered
  • Evidence of ongoing CPD e.g. maintained in a portfolio; attendance at musculoskeletal postgraduate courses; informal learning.
Desirable criteria
  • Member of the CSP

Previous Experience

Essential criteria
  • 18 months band 5 rotational experience or suitable alternative experience; must include at least 4 months of Musculoskeletal Outpatients.
  • Have worked in the NHS and understand the role of a Band 6 within it.
  • Experience working as part of a physiotherapy and/or multidisciplinary team
  • Evidence of student, Band 5 or physiotherapy assistant supervision
Desirable criteria
  • Previous experience at Band 6 Physiotherapist level

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Essential criteria
  • Previous experience with audit
  • Self-directed learning
  • Ability to work independently
  • Awareness of Primary care working and NHS structures
  • Good computer literacy
Desirable criteria
  • Working knowledge of RIO / Smart card
