Community Learning Disability Nurse

We are looking for a learning disability nurse who will join our multi-disciplinary team and help to make a difference to the quality of life for people with learning disabilities. This is an exciting opportunity to work with a wide range of people with many diverse and complex needs. This is a great opportunity to work in the community providing you with a unique opportunity to develop and learn within the learning disability service. 

You may already be a learning disability nurse working with people with a learning disability and are looking to take the next step into a community multi-disciplinary team, looking for a new challenge. Then why not contact us if you are ready for a new challenge. 

You will be expected to do some of your visits remotely & face-to-face, working in a multi-disciplinary team approach, including working with private care providers and families. The ability to educate and influence is therefore essential.

As a Trust we support our staff on-going personal developments, yearly appraisals, regular clinical supervision with the senior learning disability nurse and encourage career development and training to enable you to keep up to date with the current healthcare standards. 

Prif ddyletswyddau'r swydd

  • To manage a caseload   

  • To contribute to comprehensive specialist nursing assessment  

  • To promote and facilitate access to primary and secondary healthcare for individuals with a learning disability including health checks and health action plans 

  • To provide specialist advice and therapeutic interventions to parents and carers of people with a learning  

  • To provide and facilitate health education and promotion to include both individual and group work

Previous Experience

  • Working with people who have Dementia.
  • Working with sexual health and support.
  • To have post qualification experience of working with people with a learning disability, for 2 years.

  • Working with people who challenge.
  • Work with people with mental health problems.
  • Work with people with complex/profound disabilities.
  • Working with people who have Epilepsy.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Knowledge of Epilepsy, in relation to people with learning disabilities.
  • Knowledge of approaches to challenging behaviour.
  • Understanding/knowledge of current philosophies of care e.g., valuing people.
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work autonomously.
  • Ability to effectively manage self and others e.g., Time management caseload management.
  • Ability to relate theory/research to practice.
  • Able to demonstrate reflective practice.

  • Ability to assess and manage clinical risk.
  • Ability to use a range of assessment tools and therapeutic interventions.
  • Awareness of research methods.
