The Mount has a fabulous opportunity to join our expanding inpatient teams. We are keen to welcome experienced nurses who are passionate about older adult care and making a difference in people’s lives.  The candidate should want to develop themselves as a charge nurse/ sister and hold an enthusiasm for service development and leadership. Successful candidates will be highly motivated, caring, compassionate and proud to work with older adults.

 

The Mount has four wards, (two dementia assessment, two functional mental health), dedicated to the delivery of safe and effective care to the older adult population of Leeds, priding ourselves on our excellent mental health and our outstanding physical health care.

On the wards you would join a multi-disciplinary team in providing high standards of care to service users and working closely with carers/families. The role gives you the opportunity to develop your excellent clinical skills and will offer more experience of operational leadership. We offer comprehensive on-going support and professional development to all our staff including appraisals, personal development plans, short term & long term study opportunities & a robust clinical supervision structure.

The Older Peoples Inpatient Service provides inpatient care, assessment and treatment to service users living with dementia and service users with functional mental health needs such as diagnosis of depression or psychosis.  We aim to provide effective person centered care to all service users and offer an individualized care plan that both aids in recovery and promotes wellbeing. We also aim to work in partnership with service users to both maintain a person’s skills and personhood but also work in promoting coping strategies.

 

The post holder will provide strong leadership to their team on a day to day basis, provide their team of staff with monthly supervision, annual appraisal and offering expertise and support regarding patient flow –ensuring effective care and timely appropriate discharges from the ward.

The post holder will be responsible for assisting the Ward Manager in all duties relating to the overall wider responsibility for the assessment of care needs, the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care and the setting and role modelling of standards of care across the teams.

An essential aspect of the role will be to take a lead in designated areas of practice across the Unit, working with the Service Matron and Ward Manager to develop an action plan, identify training and development needs and consider audit requirements in relation to this area (e.g medicines management, purposeful admission, educational lead)

Takes on the role of shift co-ordinator, as designated on a shift by shift basis ensuring the smooth running of the shift, reporting concerns or incidents in the appropriate manner through the management structure.

 

The post holder will also be expected to act on a rotation basis as the senior nurse on site. The role of the senior nurse (SN) on site is to offer support and guidance to staff across all wards. The role will be supernumerary allowing staff to flex across the unit to support wards if there is a need. The focus for the senior nurse will be primarily but not exclusively ensuring safe and adequate staffing levels at all times and supporting with capacity and flow particularly outside of normal working hours. This role will also provide clinical guidance and support to staff across the in-patient service when not acting in the role of senior nurse the post holder will continue in their main role as charge nurse/sister.

 

Takes an active role in the project work in order to achieve high standards of clinical care e.g. Dementia Care Mapping and best practice in dementia care, Promoting wrap or recovery focused models of care.

 

The post holder will assist the ward Manager / Service Matron with the implementation and monitoring of action plans and performance plans for identified staff who are subject to performance management plans
