SUPERVISOR AT BURY WORKSHOP – North West Ambulance Service.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Workshop Supervisor to join our Fleet Maintenance Department at North West Ambulance Service Fleet Workshop - Bury.

This is a permanent position attracting a Band 6 remuneration package, reflecting the appropriate level of experience and knowledge required for undertake this key position.

NWAS Band 6 salary range is £35383 - £37350 per annum, plus overtime, plus unsocial hours payment for shift working.

Working hours are 37.5 Hours per week average set out across a two-shift pattern.

Shifts are typically 12hrs per day on the following rotation -  

Week 1 - 2 days working, 3 days’ rest, 2 days working.

Followed by

Week 2 - 2 days’ rest, 3 days working, 2-day rest,

The shift pattern covers seven days per week, working within the hours of 7:00am to 7:00pm Monday to Friday, and 7:00am to 6:00pm weekends.

You will not work more than four days in any given week unless you work voluntary overtime.

This shift pattern is aimed at providing an excellent work / life balance.

In order to be considered for this vacancy  the following skill sets are required to support your application  -

  • City and guilds Mechanics and Technicians certificate in Motor Vehicle Technology or NVQ level 3
  • Diploma or Certificate in vehicle workshop management or evidence of relevant supervisory experience
  • Driving Licence C1 + D1 Desirable guidance
  • European Computer Driver Licence (ECDL)
  • Analytical, judgemental, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent administrative, communicative, motivation and leadership skills
  • Comprehensive Technical, Legislative and Health and Safety knowledge
  • Ability to have a flexible approach and be able to work on own initiative.
  • Work in partnership with individuals, group’s communities, and agencies.
  • Financial budget control and commercial awareness skills
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience at a supervisory level in the management of fleet maintenance workshops.
  • Working knowledge of UK and EU Transport, Construction & Use Regulations, Vehicle Inspectorate Legislation, and relevant Codes of Practice relative to Road Transport Management.

North West Ambulance Service NHS Trust provides 24 hour, 365 days a year accident and emergency services to those in need of emergency medical treatment and transport.

Our highly skilled staff provide life-saving care to patients in the community and take people to hospital or a place of care if needed.
We also provide non-emergency patient transport services for those patients who require non-emergency transport to and from hospital and who are unable to travel unaided because of their medical condition or clinical need.

Alongside the other emergency services, we also work to ensure the safety of the public and treatment of patients in the event of a major incident.

We also deliver the NHS 111 service in the North West. NHS 111 replaced NHS Direct in 2013. This service was introduced to make it easier for people to access local NHS healthcare services in England. It provides non-emergency medical help fast, and is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Qualifications and Education

Essential criteria
  • NVQ Level 3 Mechanics and Technicians certificate in Motor Vehicle Technology or equivalent, such as City and Guilds.
  • Diploma or Certificate in vehicle workshop management, general management or evidence of relevant supervisory experience.
  • Full Driving Licence, C1 + D1 or working towards.

  • Significant experience of working as a Motor Vehicle Technician in a workshop environment.
  • Thorough knowledge of health safety and risk regulations relating to vehicles, equipment’s, workshop and safe working practice.
  • Experience in supervision, leadership and managing a team.
Desirable criteria
  • Experience at a supervisory level in the management of fleet maintenance workshops.
  • Working knowledge of UK and EU Transport, Construction & Use Regulations, Vehicle Inspectorate Legislation and relevant Codes of Practice relative to Road Transport Management.
