Job overview

The Integrated Cardio-Respiratory Service is a combined service working across hospital and community pathways, providing community services in clinic and home-based settings. The service is a consultant led multidisciplinary team providing a range of service including diagnostic clinics, COPD and asthma disease optimisation, exacerbation management, hospital discharge, home oxygen, pulmonary rehabilitation, dyspneoa management and primary care education and support. 

The aim is to provide a more accessible, efficient, cost-effective service integrating respiratory services across secondary and primary care, to enable continuity of care and give respiratory patients the opportunities to have access to care closer to their homes. We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic individual to work cooperatively as part of the multi-disciplinary team supporting colleagues in looking after patients and promoting respiratory health within ICHNT and the surrounding community. The role will entail supporting diagnostic spirometry (following appropriate training), the pulmonary rehabilitation programme and colleagues in clinics and in the community, patient assessment and patient education.

Main duties of the job

  • The successful post holder will be required to support the pulmonary rehabilitation team in the delivery of the pulmonary rehabilitation programme. They will carry out rehabilitation assesments and support safe and evidenced based exercise prescription within the classes.
  • The post holder is required to be competent and confident in communicating with patients and NHS staff in a professional, caring and considerate manner. They must also be able to adapt their communication to meet the verying needs of service users.
  • This is an ever adapting service and the post holder needs to be able to adapt to accommodate changing working patterns and demands as the service requires. This will include working in a variety of locations across the boroughs of Kensington, Chelsea and Westminster. 
  • The successful candidate will also complete spirometry training and lead on spirometry and FeNO clinics, alongside their rehabilitation commitments.

Education/ Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Certificates of competence in performing basic clinical observations and procedures
  • English Language GCE/GCSE or equivalent
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel/Word)
Desirable criteria
  • Healthcare Qualifications

Experience

Essential criteria
  • NVQ Level 3 or 12 months experience at Band 3 or equivalent.
  • Six months experience in an Outpatient Clinic Setting
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of respiratory +/- community care

Skills/Knowledge/ Abilities

Essential criteria
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Able to problem solve
  • Able to follow precedent, policies and procedures and recognise when to escalate issues to a manager.
  • Good IT skills
  • Able to prioritise and meet deadlines.
