The Gynae oncology team at the University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust (UHS) are delighted to be able to offer a fantastic opportunity for a self-motivated friendly and reliable individual to join the team. 

You will be working in a supportive environment along side the CNS team and gynae pathway navigator.  You will act as a point of contact for women with a gynaecological cancer and support endometrial cancer Patient Initiated Follow Up (PIFU). 

A key aspect of this role will be to manage and support the self-management workshops which will be provided for patients as they complete treatment, and to scope the need and feasibility of other supportive self-management interventions - for example, 'Health and Wellbeing events’.

The overall purpose of this post is to work independently but under the guidance and supervision of a Clinical Nurse Specialists, to enable and support patients who have a diagnosis of gynaecological cancer. 

The support worker will act as a point of contact for women with a gynaecological cancer and support endometrial cancer Patient Initiated Follow Up (PIFU). 

They will be able to support to patients over the telephone, in outpatient clinics and as inpatients with access to MyMR and personalised care. This will include holistic needs assessments, care plans, health and wellbeing information and supported self-management.

A key aspect of this role will be to manage and support the self-management workshops which will be provided for patients as they complete treatment, and to scope the need and feasibility of other supportive self-management interventions - for example, 'Health and Wellbeing events’.

The role will involve supporting the CNS teams with triage of their patient phone calls; coordinate care and investigations. 

An understanding of the health and social care environment is essential and the support worker should be proficient in the use of hospital computerised patient systems. 

Possession of good IT skills with experience of spreadsheets, emails and databases with the ability to collect data and input electronically is essential.

The support worker must be friendly and approachable in their manner and be able to get on with people and share knowledge with others.

Qualifications / training required

  • Numeracy skills and Literacy skills at level 1 or 2 (or equivalent)
  • NVQ level 2/ 3 in care, or an equivalent level of experience.
  • Diploma level qualification or equivalent experience e.g. good knowledge across a range of health or social care settings

Previous or relevant experience necessary

  • Organisational knowledge of health service policy in relation to data management and information governance
  • Proficient in the use of all hospital computerised patient systems
