Job overview

Finchley Memorial Hospital has two rehabilitation wards: Adams ward has 30- bedded capacity and Marjorie Warren ward has 21 bedded general rehabilitation adult inpatient ward in Finchley Memorial Hospital, North Finchley. The Hospital is a beautiful new build surrounded by beautiful, landscaped gardens and open spaces.

Both sites have good access to local transport and easy parking facilities.
 
We have dedicated rehabilitation Multi Disciplinary Teams consisting of Registered Nurses, Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Dieticians, Speech therapist, Pharmacists, Activities Coordinators, Senior Care Assistants, Rehab Support Workers, Care assistants and Housekeepers. As a team, the aim is to support patients to regain function, confidence, self-respect and much more.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for a Healthcare Support Worker to be a part of the team in a challenging environment and to remain focused on enabling staff to deliver the Trusts core objectives of high-quality patient care whilst supporting and developing the individuals within the team. The individual will need to be focused on the patient experience to ensure all patients will have a positive and comfortable stay in the ward.  You will need to display excellent communication skills and offer care in a kind and compassionate manner. You will be dynamic, in-innovative, hardworking, and have excellent written and verbal communication skills.  In return, whatever your career aspirations, we are committed to supporting and developing you.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

•    To contribute to the on-going assessment of a patient by completing the appropriate paperwork for allocated patients, recording and reporting all clinical and behavioural information to the nurse/therapist for action and planning purposes.
•    To undertake, and report back on delegated clinical activities that have previously been signed competent. Eg: vital signs, routine urinalysis, glucose monitoring, gait/mobility training, falls prevention awareness groups, increasing independence through activities of daily living
•    To enable patients/carers to make most effective use of resources within the service by ensuring they receive up-to-date information sheets, responding to any questions constructively
•    To pass onto/seek assistance from other colleagues, promptly, any questions that you are unable to resolve
•    To liaise and refer patients to the MDT team as appropriate in accordance with local procedures.

Education/Qaulications

Essential criteria
  • Higher Professional Diploma in Health and Wellbeing (NVQ/QCF – Level 3) or
  • A recognised equivalent course
  • Willingness to undertake further training as appropriate
Desirable criteria
  • GCSE grade A-C or equivalent in English and Maths ECDL certificate
  • Registration with the national regulatory body (when it becomes available).
