An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Corporate Governance Manager to join the Corporate Affairs Directorate.

Reporting to the Head of Corporate Governance, you will be a key member of the Corporate Governance Team and have a broad remit in ensuring corporate governance is embedded throughout the Trust in accordance with statutory and legislative requirements.

The postholder will provide outstanding secretariat support to a portfolio of Board of Director and Board Committee meetings and lead on managing the key aspects of the corporate governance framework for the Trust.  The postholder will also provide support in the quarterly and annual review process of the Board Assurance Framework and has line management responsibilities for the Executive Business Support Team.

This is a varied role and will suit a dynamic individual who is motivated and has excellent interpersonal and organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise their own workload to meet changing demands.

Recent and relevant knowledge and expertise in corporate governance within an NHS environment is key along with the proven ability to produce high quality minutes of Board of Director and Board Committee meetings.

North West Ambulance Service NHS Trust provides 24 hour, 365 days a year accident and emergency services to those in need of emergency medical treatment and transport.

Our highly skilled staff provide life-saving care to patients in the community and take people to hospital or a place of care if needed.
We also provide non-emergency patient transport services for those patients who require non-emergency transport to and from hospital and who are unable to travel unaided because of their medical condition or clinical need.

Alongside the other emergency services, we also work to ensure the safety of the public and treatment of patients in the event of a major incident.

We also deliver the NHS 111 service in the North West. NHS 111 replaced NHS Direct in 2013. This service was introduced to make it easier for people to access local NHS healthcare services in England. It provides non-emergency medical help fast, and is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

  • Understanding of relevant NHS legislation as it applies to NHS trusts and NHS foundation trusts.
  • Outstanding written and oral communication skills, including ability to write fluently and accurately

  • Ability to manage conflict and sensitive situations and to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

Qualification and knowledge

  • Masters level qualification or equivalent professional relevant experience in a corporate governance role
  • Evidence of continued professional development in a relevant field
  • CGI Advanced Certificate in Healthcare Governance (or willingness to work towards during 1st year of employment) or qualified as a Chartered Secretary/Chartered Governance Professional
  • Understanding and knowledge of corporate governance best practice
  • Advanced IT and keyboard skills across all Microsoft programmes

Experience

  • Track record of dealing with corporate governance and principles of business conduct in a large and complex organisation.
  • Substantial experience of providing secretariat support to Board and Board Committees
  • Experience of drafting reports for Board and Board Committees
  • Experience of producing accurate and high-quality professional Board level minutes for corporate organisations
  • Substantial experience of working closely with and supporting Board members
  • Experience of handling sensitive situations with a high level of tact and diplomacy
  • Proven experience of understanding and giving advice on corporate governance matters
  • Experience of managing and developing a team
  • Experience of handling highly sensitive information with absolute discretion and confidentiality
